Lin Qingzhu’s eyes were rimmed red as she stared in disbelief at the person before her—someone who looked the same, yet felt like a completely different soul.

Lin Tian, after all, still cared deeply for his younger sister and quickly tried to explain.

“Sister, what are you thinking? How could I ever sell you?”

“I just want you to ask your boss if we could borrow some money to help us through a temporary financial difficulty. I’ll pay it back in a couple of days—I promise.”

Lin Tian spoke patiently, trying to reassure her.

But Lin Qingzhu remained unmoved.

Seeing her hesitation, Lin Tian continued persuading her at length. He insisted he had finally found a surefire way to make money, promised to repay her kindness in the future, painted a vivid picture of their better life ahead, and even vowed to properly thank her boss afterward.

Of course, if Lin Tian had known that Lin Qingzhu’s boss was actually Gu Junqing, he would certainly have given him a very special kind of “thanks.”

After much persuasion, Lin Qingzhu finally began to waver. She also wanted to find a way to repay Gu Junqing. She didn’t want to rely on him forever—he was too outstanding, like the sun in the sky. She didn’t want to remain merely his little maid; she wanted to stand beside him and repay that 100,000 yuan through her own efforts.

(As for standing shoulder to shoulder with the sun… that was perhaps a bit unrealistic…)

After extracting numerous promises from Lin Tian, she returned to her room to think it over. Hesitantly, she finally picked up her phone and dialed Gu Junqing’s number.

Gu Junqing, who was at home, answered immediately. Seeing that the call was from Lin Qingzhu, a meaningful smile appeared on his lips.

“Hello, Qingzhu. What’s the matter?”

“Junqing… Brother, could you lend me 500,000 yuan? I’ll definitely pay you back in a few days!” Lin Qingzhu hesitated at first, then spoke with determination.

Without asking any questions, Gu Junqing simply requested her bank account number and promptly transferred 500,000 yuan.

Seeing how much he trusted her, Lin Qingzhu felt deeply moved.

If Lin Tian can’t repay it… then I’ll repay Junqing Brother myself. She silently made her decision.

After receiving the transfer notification, Lin Qingzhu immediately forwarded the entire 500,000 yuan to Lin Tian.

Overjoyed, Lin Tian became certain that with this money, he could purchase several high-quality raw jade stones at the gambling market.

Originally, he had only intended to borrow a small amount from his sister, but he never expected her employer to be so wealthy and generous—actually lending 500,000 yuan so easily.

Clutching the bank card loaded with money, he hurried out toward the gambling market, telling Lin Qingzhu to wait for his return before leaving.

At that moment, for some unknown reason, a faint premonition warned him not to go. The feeling flickered briefly before disappearing entirely.

He dismissed it as fatigue from recent sleepless nights.

Little did he know, it was the world’s energy gathering its final remnants to warn him of danger. But Lin Tian’s Protagonist Halo had weakened so much that the warning faded almost instantly.

This might very well have been his last chance.

Lin Qingzhu, believing he was going to make an investment, felt somewhat worried. After all, Lin Tian was her only remaining family—surely he wouldn’t lie to her.

Her thoughts soon drifted toward Gu Junqing. She truly hadn’t expected him to trust her so completely. Five hundred thousand yuan was more money than she had ever seen in her life.

[Ding, female lead Lin Qingzhu’s favorability toward the host has increased by 20. Villain Points increased by 2000.]

On the other side, Gu Junqing noticed the system notification and curled his lips into a smile.

He could finally purchase the Heaven-Stealing Talisman.

Lin Qingzhu was doing household chores at home, worried about what Lin Tian had gone off to do, yet also finding herself thinking about Gu Junqing.

Suddenly, she heard the sound of a car downstairs and someone calling her name.

She opened the window and was surprised to see Gu Junqing standing below.

She hurried downstairs, only believing it was truly him when she opened the door.

“How come you’re here?” Lin Qingzhu’s eyes sparkled.

“I came to see why you suddenly needed 500,000 yuan. Did something happen? Do you need my help?”

Gu Junqing gazed gently at the girl before him, her lively eyes and sweet smile utterly captivating.

Lin Qingzhu hesitated briefly but ultimately told him everything that had happened.

Since he trusted her so much, she felt she couldn’t hide anything from him.

“Oh? Lin Tian took the 500,000, and you don’t know where he went?” Gu Junqing frowned, pretending confusion.

He acted as though he were making a phone call to investigate Lin Tian’s whereabouts.

After finishing his performance, he gave Lin Qingzhu a complicated look. With acting skills like that, he could probably win an Oscar.

“Would you like to come with me and see what your brother is doing now?” Gu Junqing’s eyes flickered.

Lin Qingzhu’s heart tightened. She feared hearing that Lin Tian had already run away.

But judging from Gu Junqing’s expression, it didn’t seem that serious, so she agreed to go with him.

“Then promise me you won’t act impulsively when we get there—and put on this mask.”

Gu Junqing carefully placed the mask onto Lin Qingzhu’s face. As he gently adjusted it and tucked her hair behind her ears, her heart softened once again.

Why did he have to be so gentle, as though she were some precious treasure?

Her face beneath the mask flushed bright red.

Soon, Lin Qingzhu followed Gu Junqing to a casino.

The casino was crowded and chaotic, filled with a murky atmosphere even in broad daylight.

Surrounded by burly men and an unsettling environment, Lin Qingzhu looked like an innocent rabbit—an angel who had wandered into the mortal world.

Frightened, she clutched the hem of Gu Junqing’s clothes, not daring to let go.

Her fear soon turned into heartache. Why would Lin Tian come to such a place? Had he taken the money just to gamble?

She didn’t want to believe it.

But as they walked deeper inside, her heart sank.

She saw Lin Tian heading toward an area clearly marked as a gambling stone arena.

Lin Tian himself was extremely excited. A boss had recommended this place, telling him that if he had sharp eyes, he could try his luck with gambling stones here.

Suddenly, everything clicked—he finally understood how to fully utilize his Golden Eyes.

Recently, many casinos had been targeting him. Some singled him out and refused to pay his winnings.

In others, when his Golden Eyes saw an Ace, the card would somehow turn into a Two. He knew the casinos were cheating, but he didn’t dare protest.

His current perception allowed him to sense numerous experts inside casinos. While he could handle one or two opponents, he stood no chance against larger groups.

But this time, he could finally unleash his full potential.

He refused to believe the casino could cheat at gemstone gambling. After all, how could they possibly manipulate what lay hidden inside solid stones?

This only proved how inexperienced Lin Tian still was.

In certain places, gemstone gambling was even more corrupt than ordinary gambling.

These seemingly legitimate methods of making money often hid far darker operations beneath the surface.
