Baiyun Mountain Range, on the mountain path.

Chen Ming was flying ahead alone. Behind him came the tinkling laughter of a woman, which made him clench his fists tighter, his expression growing darker.

Li Yu and Jiang Li were being too much—they were ganging up two against one, but that aside, they even took away the Junior Sister Zhou he liked. This grudge must be avenged, or else he would be no man!

“Why didn’t I notice before that Junior Brother Li is so interesting?” On the way down the mountain, Sister Zhou covered her mouth and laughed softly, her beautiful eyes sparkling as she looked at Li Yu.

In her impression, Li Yu had always been quiet and reserved, but in the past half hour, she saw a witty and charming gentleman who had made her laugh repeatedly, losing her composure more than once.

Li Yu smiled and said, “We weren’t so familiar before, Senior Sister Zhou…”

Jiang Li glanced at Li Yu, feeling that he seemed like a different person these days. The old Li Yu was like a closed book, sometimes not saying a word all day. But on this short walk down the mountain, he had spoken more with Sister Zhou than in the past half month combined.

Could it be that he had fallen for Sister Zhou?

Li Yu flew gracefully in the sky, looking down at the lush green forest below, and exhaled slowly.

No one liked living a life teetering on the edge of danger. Perhaps he had been too repressed in his past life; now reborn, his mindset had changed slightly. Occasionally teasing the beautiful Senior Sister and seeing her flushed, shy expression was quite entertaining.

After an hour, the four arrived at a small city at the foot of the mountain.

This city was called Fengzhou City, located in Chen Dynasty territory. The haunted location was a residence within the city.

Li Yu was not unfamiliar with the city—he recalled that Jiang Li often took him down the mountain several times each month to gorge at the largest tavern in Fengzhou City.

Looking back, no wonder he hadn’t succeeded in condensing Qi after two years. While others worked hard on cultivation, Jiang Li had dragged him down the mountain to enjoy life, taking things lightly. No wonder his progress was stalled…

In fact, Jiang Li was the greatest obstacle on Li Yu’s path of cultivation these past two years.

Luckily, that demoness did not know about this. Otherwise, Jiang Li would have faced serious consequences.

Fengzhou City, city gate.

Several figures stood eagerly waiting at the gate. When a portly middle-aged man saw Li Yu and the others, his face lit up with joy. He hurried forward and said, “Respected immortals, you have finally arrived. I have prepared a humble feast at the tavern—please come with me.”

The banquet prepared by Mr. Ren was sumptuous. During the meal, he described in detail the strange events that had occurred at his home.

A few days ago, the Ren family had moved into a new residence, a joyous occasion. But since moving in, every night for several days, all the dozens of family members had terrifying nightmares. In the dreams, fierce demons with green faces and sharp fangs tormented them without end…

This caused great fear among the Ren family. Within days, over ten family members had fallen ill. With no other choice, Mr. Ren personally came up Baiyun Mountain and spent a fortune to seek cultivators to exorcise the ghosts.

“That demon had only half a face—it was so terrifying…”

“I saw a pale-faced female ghost, her tongue at least three feet long!”

“There was also an old ghost that tore off its own arm and chewed on it…”

…

When they talked about these recent nightmares, the Ren family members present were visibly frightened, trembling, and pale as paper.

Mr. Ren, full of fear but also anger, gritted his teeth and said, “That damned feng shui master said this was a rare, hundred-year good residence, good for the descendants, and charged me a full hundred taels. But every day we encounter ghosts. Next time I see him, I’ll break his damn legs…”

Listening to their descriptions, Sister Zhou and Chen Ming appeared calm, but Jiang Li was clearly somewhat frightened — after all, it was his first time encountering such things. Li Yu, besides feeling uncertain, also secretly found it a bit thrilling…

He had seen many people before, but ghosts were a first.

In this world, after a person dies, their spirit can continue to exist as a spiritual entity. But these spirits are fragile, belonging to the utmost Yin energy. Generally, they dissipate quickly on their own and cannot last long, nor can they be exposed to sunlight.

The lowest-level spirits cannot cause physical harm to the living. They only appear at night when Yin energy is strongest. If a sleeping mortal is invaded by Yin energy, they are prone to nightmares, and over time their mind and body will collapse.

Judging from the Ren family’s description, the haunting at their new residence was caused only by the lowest-level ghostly beings, called Yin spirits.

These Yin spirits had little combat ability; even a small fireball could cause their spiritual forms to collapse and completely dissipate into the world. Having four Qi Refining stage cultivators from Baiyun Temple come was really overkill.

After the meal, Li Yu and the others, led by Mr. Ren, arrived at the Ren family’s new residence.

This house was far from the busy city, covering a large area with no other buildings nearby. The mansion was built against the mountain, with a small lake behind the courtyard. The air was fresh, the scenery beautiful—indeed a fine residence.

However, standing before the house, Li Yu felt an uncomfortable chill all over.

Jiang Li hugged his shoulders and instinctively leaned closer to Li Yu.

Chen Ming, hands behind his back, looked around and finally glanced at Mr. Ren, asking, “Do you have a grudge against that feng shui master?”

Mr. Ren was taken aback for a moment before replying, “Why would you say that, Immortal Master?”

Chen Ming said coolly, “If you had no grievance, why would he let you build your house here?”

Mr. Ren seemed to realize something; his expression changed and he asked, “Could the feng shui here be bad?”

Chen Ming looked around again, a half-smile on his face: “The feng shui here is indeed quite good. It’s a rare fine residence. But it’s a Yin house—barely suitable for the living, but perfect for the dead…”

Mr. Ren was furious and helpless, “Damn it! I have no feud with him, so why would he harm me?”

Zhou Zixuan was somewhat surprised, exclaiming, “Senior Brother Chen, do you understand geomancy?”

Seeing Junior Sister Zhou’s astonished look and the attention of Li Yu and Jiang Li, Chen Ming regained some confidence.

Because the Baiyun Temple preached detachment, once he had spent a fortune to buy an erotic painting book to console himself on lonely nights. When he opened it, however, it turned out to be a feng shui manual. He had almost torn it up in anger…

Later, out of boredom, he casually flipped through it and unknowingly learned quite a bit.

He puffed out his chest slightly and said, “This place is called the ‘Double Mountains Beside Water’ formation. Junior Sister Zhou, look—the house is flanked by two high mountains, with a water source in front. The Yin and filthy energy blows in from between the two mountains and gathers over the water, making this a place that concentrates Yin energy—just the kind of place Yin spirits like to gather…”

Though Li Yu did not understand feng shui, Chen Ming’s explanation sounded convincing, not like nonsense.

Geomancy is a fringe study in the cultivation world. Few on the righteous path understand it well, but those on the demonic path use geomancy to nurture ghosts and corpses, hated by the righteous.

Mr. Ren recovered and asked, “May I ask, Immortal Master, is there a way to dispel this formation?”

Chen Ming waved his hand casually. “It’s simple. Just have someone fill in the lake and plant trees over it. That’ll break the convergence of yin energy, and no more spirits will be drawn to the site.”

Mr. Ren was overjoyed and bowed several times, repeatedly thanking Chen Ming, “Thank you, Immortal Master, thank you…”

Chen Ming’s vanity was well satisfied. He wanted to show off more knowledge to catch Junior Sister Zhou’s attention, but Li Yu and the others had already gone inside.

The Ren family members, deeply affected by the nightmares, dared not enter but only stood watching at the gate.

Chen Ming waved them off, “You may leave for now. Come back tomorrow morning.”

The Ren family members felt as if pardoned and quickly disappeared.

Yin spirits are the weakest ghosts and easily dispersed by Yang energy. They hide underground or in places without sunlight during the day, only daring to appear late at night when Yin energy is strongest.

Li Yu and the others each found a room and waited quietly for midnight.

Time passed slowly; night fully descended.

At midnight.

Li Yu lay in bed; the candle in the room had long been extinguished. Pale moonlight shone through the window, casting a layer of dark gray shadows on the floor.

At one moment, an invisible shadow drifted in from outside the door, passing through the doorway and slowly floating to the bedside. Looking at the young man lying on the bed, it couldn’t help but say, “Such a handsome man—I can’t bear to scare him…”

The next moment, the young man opened his eyes and asked her, “How handsome?”
