Just a minute ago—

Chen Xiaoxin had been sneakily observing his new deskmate. He thought this girl looked quite pretty, but… maybe not the brightest. Ever since she sat down, she’d just been sitting there in a daze like her brain had crashed.

But then—

Her next move made Chen Xiaoxin unexpectedly delighted.

He saw her pull a phone out of her pocket and, with her head down, start secretly playing with it under the desk.

Nice!

Turns out she’s one of us.

But… her technique was kind of amateurish. With the way she was holding her phone now, the math teacher up front would spot her in seconds.

“That’s not how you play with a phone.”

The moment she heard that, Yan Xiaoxi froze and looked at him in confusion. She had no idea what he meant.

But the next second, she witnessed the most bizarre sight.

Her deskmate, while keeping his eyes fixed on the blackboard, held a black pen in his right hand and was jotting down notes in a notebook at high speed. At the same time, his left hand was under the desk, operating his phone one-handed!

Whoa… amazing!

He’s typing on a 9-key keypad without looking? And he’s doing it one-handed??

Yan Xiaoxi was stunned, her eyes wide open in awe, watching this incredible sight. Just as she was still in shock about Chen Xiaoxin blind-typing with one hand, he passed his phone to her. When she focused on it, there was a message:

[Classmate, the way you were playing on your phone just now—it’s way too easy for the teacher to catch you. Never bow your head when using your phone in class!]

The sentence was so smooth and even had perfect punctuation…

After witnessing his one-handed blind typing and now seeing this message, Yan Xiaoxi was filled with admiration. And also—gratitude. She didn’t expect her deskmate to actually be such a decent guy.

“Thanks,” she said, “Actually, it’s no problem. I—”

Before she could finish, Chen Xiaoxin suddenly snatched his phone back—and while he was at it, he grabbed hers too.

Everything happened so fast that Yan Xiaoxi had no idea what was going on.

Then, his whisper came again:

“Shhh… The homeroom teacher’s coming.”

Huh?
What does that mean?
The homeroom teacher’s coming?

Yan Xiaoxi looked toward the hallway window but didn’t see anyone. Just as she was about to ask, a figure suddenly appeared—it was Teacher Tian, the one who’d brought her here, also her new homeroom teacher.

No way…
The homeroom teacher actually showed up?
How… how did he know?!

Creepy!

Way too creepy!

Before Yan Xiaoxi could even process what just happened, Chen Xiaoxin had already been called out by the homeroom teacher. Watching his back as he left, she had a strong feeling: This guy definitely has a story.

“Chen Xiaoxin.”

“The new transfer student today—she’s no ordinary person. You better not pull any weird stunts around her,” Teacher Tian warned earnestly. “I’m serious. You must remember what I’m saying—absolutely, absolutely, absolutely no funny business in front of her.”

Chen Xiaoxin pressed his lips together and replied seriously, “Don’t worry, Teacher Tian. My grades might be bad, but I’m an honest guy.”

“Good!”

“With that attitude… I’m relieved.” Teacher Tian smiled with satisfaction. Then he added, “Yan Xiaoxi has excellent grades. If there’s anything you don’t understand, you can go ask her. She’s even more capable than the teachers. Don’t hesitate—ask her boldly.”

“Oh,”

Chen Xiaoxin nodded but didn’t take it seriously at all. All he wanted was to slack off in peace, rack up some slacking points, and use them for the lottery.

“Report!”

“Come in.”

As Chen Xiaoxin walked back into the classroom, Yan Xiaoxi looked up at him, her eyes fixed on this boy who seemed to be filled with secrets.

“Hey…”

“What did the homeroom teacher want with you just now?”

As soon as he sat down, Yan Xiaoxi lowered her voice and asked quietly.

But Chen Xiaoxin simply made a shushing gesture at her, handed back her phone, pointed at the textbook on his desk, and said no more.

For a moment—

Yan Xiaoxi felt extremely ashamed. She blamed herself deeply for having disturbed someone who was clearly trying to focus on their studies.

In such a strong learning atmosphere, under the influence of such a seemingly studious deskmate, the academic prodigy Yan Xiaoxi suddenly felt a renewed thirst for knowledge. She took out a linear algebra textbook and began seriously flipping through it, occasionally jotting things down and underlining key points.

Meanwhile—

Although Chen Xiaoxin appeared to be paying close attention in class, his thoughts had already drifted far away. While it technically counted as slacking, the slacking points he earned like this were minimal—nowhere near what he’d get from sleeping or playing on his phone. But it was too risky to take out his phone now. After all, he’d just returned from outside, and both the teacher and classmates still had their eyes on him.

So…

He had to wait.

Wait until everyone forgot about him. Based on past experience… five more minutes should do it.

Subconsciously, he glanced to the side and couldn’t help but frown.

Hey classmate!

That’s not how you slack off!

One of the biggest no-nos during class is lowering your head. When everyone else has their heads up, you become the brightest star in the dark night. And you’ve even brought out the wrong book—that’s a critical mistake. What if the math teacher storms down here? How are you going to explain yourself?

Meanwhile—

Completely absorbed in her studies, Yan Xiaoxi had just finished reviewing everything about eigenvalues and eigenvectors in matrices. She quietly put down her pen and sat there zoning out… until she noticed her deskmate.

He was sitting there, meticulously focused, looking up at the teacher on the podium. But his hands were under the desk, holding a smartphone.

“Double kill!”
“Triple kill!”
“Quadra kill!”
“Penta kill!”

When Yan Xiaoxi saw the kill notifications popping up on the game screen, her mind buzzed, and it felt like her brain’s CPU was overheating.

What the hell?!
Didn’t he just say not to disturb his studying?

Why… why is he suddenly playing a game during class?!

Wait a minute!
He’s clearly looking at the blackboard, so how is he controlling the game characters so smoothly with both hands? And how did he manage to pull off a “Penta Kill” like that??

Using his peripheral vision?
Aren’t his eyes tired?!

Yan Xiaoxi secretly watched as her deskmate tore through enemies like a madman on the path to godhood. She suddenly felt ashamed of herself. Thinking back on all her embarrassing late-night defeats in the same game… and looking at this guy beside her—

Bots.
He must be playing against bots!

But just as that thought crossed her mind, Chen Xiaoxin and his opponent entered a family-guarding battle, furiously exchanging insults in the chat. His fingers were moving so fast that they left afterimages.

Hiss…
That hand speed is insane!
He even flamed the enemy into logging off!

What followed was exactly what she expected: her deskmate smashed the enemy base and won the match—only to have his account banned for violating chat rules.

Yan Xiaoxi bit her lip, a hint of dark satisfaction flashing across her face.

At the same time—she was deeply shocked.

Who would’ve thought that in the humble halls of Shenhai No. 2 High School, there was a hidden sleeping dragon like this?

But then again—
Where there is a sleeping dragon, there must also be a young phoenix. So who could that phoenix be?

Yan Xiaoxi started scanning the classroom for that “phoenix,” but just then, the bell rang, signaling the end of the math class.

“Class Rep, bring yesterday’s homework to my office later,” the math teacher on stage said.

“Got it, Mr. Zhu.”

Suddenly, a familiar voice echoed in her ear. Yan Xiaoxi looked at her deskmate in shock, her face full of confusion.

What the hell?!
HE’S the class rep?!
