Ye Lingyun’s gaze shifted back and forth between Liu Ruohong and Liu Ruoxue, he smirked slightly, and then spoke with a hint of helplessness, “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

Seeing this, Liu Ruohong raised an eyebrow and asked, “What’s wrong? Does our master have something to do with you? Do you know her?”

Ye Lingyun only smiled faintly, remaining silent, but his eyes darkened with a deeper meaning.

He thought to himself, How could it be just knowing her?

That was his own mother, the one who abandoned him shortly after his birth.

This matter definitely needed an explanation in the future.

Just as Liu Ruohong’s curiosity was piqued and she was about to continue asking, her younger sister, Liu Ruoxue, cleverly changed the subject.

“Brother Ye Tian, this time of year is perfect for a spring outing. I heard the Wu River has a nice view. How about you accompany us for a stroll?”

She clung to Ye Lingyun’s arm, swaying coquettishly as her breath tickled his ear. Her soft voice whispered like an orchid’s fragrance, and her bright eyes shimmered with expectation.

But under her eager gaze, Ye Lingyun slowly shook his head and calmly declined, “I need to cultivate.”

Unbothered, Liu Ruoxue leaned even closer and pouted, clinging to him like a stubborn cat, “Aww, Brother Ye Tian—just this once?”

When she saw that his expression remained firm, not swayed in the slightest, her eyes twitched playfully and a mischievous smile curled on her lips.

“As long as you accompany me, I’ll take care of all your homework this month.”

Hearing that, Ye Lingyun’s expression twisted subtly.

What the heck? I suddenly feel like I’m being kept by a rich woman?

Still, the academy’s assignments were shallow and dull—he never found them particularly interesting. If the girl was so “generous,” why not take advantage?

After a moment’s thought, he shrugged helplessly and nodded, “Fine, then I’ll go along with you.”

Upon hearing that he agreed, Liu Ruoxue couldn’t hide her joy. She immediately cheered and danced with excitement, her radiant smile lighting up the surroundings.

As she laughed, her beauty made everything around her seem dull in comparison.

At this, Liu Ruohong could only cover her face in embarrassment, unable to look at her sister.

How could I have such a hopelessly lovesick twin sister? This is so embarrassing.

…

Time passed.

By the Wu River, the sun shone brightly, and the sky was clear. A gentle spring breeze brushed across the riverbank, carrying a fragrant scent.

Ye Lingyun had brought the Liu sisters here.

Standing by the river, the three of them gazed out into the distance.

The mighty river flowed relentlessly, its surface sparkling in the sunlight, resembling a golden and jade scroll slowly unfurling before their eyes. A gentle breeze stirred the water, creating ripples across the surface.

The distant mountains appeared misty, and the verdant willows seemed like smoke. Occasionally, birds flew over the river, causing slight ripples, contributing to the tranquil and peaceful scene.

“Wow, it’s so beautiful,” Liu Ruoxue said, her bright eyes sparkling like little stars, unintentionally giving a soft exclamation.

Next to her, Liu Ruohong, though silent, showed a glimmer of awe in her clear eyes, revealing her thoughts.

No doubt, both girls were thoroughly captivated.

As they strolled along the riverside, they occasionally pointed at sights along the water, soft laughter—like the tinkling of silver bells—echoed through the air, as gentle and pleasant as a mountain spring.

“Brother Ye Tian, tired yet? Come sit and rest a while.”
“Brother Ye Tian, are you thirsty? Here, have some water.”
“Brother Ye Tian…”

Liu Ruoxue hovered close, doting on him attentively. Her concern was so enthusiastic that even Ye Lingyun found it hard to handle.

With how intimately she behaved, she was clearly a maiden hopelessly in love.

Liu Ruohong just stared at her younger sister fluttering about like a bee, sighing inwardly.

Sigh… there’s no saving her anymore.

Just then, something strange happened on the Wu River!

Boom! Boom!

The sky suddenly darkened, dark clouds rolled in, and fierce winds began to howl. Low, rumbling thunder echoed ominously.

In the middle of the river, a huge, bottomless whirlpool suddenly formed, and with it came an overwhelming, terrifying aura.

Whoosh!

The river exploded upward, and a colossal black shadow—hundreds of feet long—shot into the sky, howling with killing intent.

The silhouette coiled in the clouds, twisting and thrashing. Its malevolent aura blotted out the sun, flooding the world in dread.

Feeling the intense pressure, Ye Lingyun’s eyes narrowed.

Is this a demon beast at the Nascent Soul stage?

Liu Ruohong also looked up in shock, her gaze fluctuating with varying emotions, her expression growing serious.

Her sister Liu Ruoxue, with a startled cry, quickly hid behind Ye Lingyun, peeking out with a frightened look.

As the trio watched, the black shadow slowly descended from the clouds, revealing its true form.

Bloodshot eyes, black scales, eagle claws, and a snake-like body.

The creature that appeared was a terrifying black flood dragon, a hundred meters long!

However, the dragon had only two small bulges on its forehead where horns were starting to grow, indicating its bloodline wasn’t pure.

That made sense. If it were a true bloodline dragon, it wouldn’t be living in a mundane river like the Wu River.

The flood dragon’s bloodshot eyes gleamed with a fierce killing intent. Its gaze locked onto the three below, and its twisted, human-like face curled into a sinister smile as it spoke in a booming voice,

“Hahaha, to wake up and find such fresh, delicious blood food—what a treat!”

Upon hearing the thunderous voice, Liu Ruohong stared at the black flood dragon swirling in the sky, struggling against the overwhelming pressure. Her heart sank.

A demon beast of the Nascent Soul stage had never appeared in Wu River before—why was a flood dragon showing up now?

This was bad.

A pale color spread across her face, and a trace of despair flashed in her eyes.

She and her sister were only at the Golden Core stage. Even if the three of them teamed up, they were no match for a Nascent Soul flood dragon.

Moreover, even though its bloodline wasn’t pure, it was still a dragon, and its combat power would be overwhelming at this stage.

Realizing how dire the situation was, Liu Ruohong clenched her teeth and made a resolute decision. She stepped forward, standing in front of Ye Lingyun and Liu Ruoxue, “I’ll do my best to hold off this demon and buy you both time. Run!”

Liu Ruoxue, who had been nervously hiding behind Ye Lingyun, immediately shook her head at her sister’s words, “No, no, I can’t leave you behind!”

“We’re all going to die together!”

Then, with a hint of tears in her voice, she added, “Wuwuwu… Brother Ye Tian, looks like we’ll be dying for love today…”

Ye Lingyun twitched his lips, a few black lines slowly appearing on his forehead.
