Time flowed on, fleeting like a galloping horse. In the blink of an eye, several days had passed.

On a lazy afternoon, Ye Lingyun’s small body lay curled up in his swaddling clothes. The farmer’s wife, in whose care he had been left, placed him on a rocking chair in the courtyard to bask in the warm sunlight.

From time to time, he propped up his tiny head, his bright black eyes darting around, filled with curiosity and wonder for the world around him.

At the moment, he felt a rare sense of contentment. The reason? None other than the miraculous benefits brought by the heaven-defying comprehension he had gained over the past few days.

[You observe an eagle soaring, its mighty wings cutting through the sky, and sense the flow of qi. You have comprehended the martial art Soaring Eagle Technique, stage: Perfection.]

[You observe a turtle retracting its breath, coiling its qi inward, and sense the way of concealing and refining qi. You have comprehended the secret skill Turtle Breathing Technique, stage: Perfection.]

[You observe a snake darting from its hole, swift and elusive, and sense the way of serpentine movement. You have comprehended the movement skill Serpent Flash, stage: Perfection.]

Each time his gaze lingered on something, the cold, mechanical prompts of the system echoed in his mind.

Thanks to his unparalleled comprehension ability, over the past few days, he had observed various animals around the courtyard and derived several martial techniques from them, each with its unique effects.

According to the information he’d acquired upon transmigrating, martial art techniques in this world were divided into five stages: Beginner, Proficient, Skilled, Perfect, and Mastery.

And every technique he’d comprehended so far had reached at least the Perfection stage.

It was undeniable—this talent was a cheat in cultivation, making progress at least twice as fast, if not many times over.

But alas, he was still just a baby. He couldn’t even handle basic necessities like eating or peeing without the farmer’s wife’s help. So, while he had unlocked these martial arts, they were currently of no practical use.

After observing his surroundings for a while, his neck began to ache. Helplessly, Ye Lingyun twitched his lips and nestled back into the swaddling cloth for a brief rest.

There wasn’t much he could do—babies naturally lacked strength. If not for the farmer’s wife managing to procure some fresh milk to feed him, he might have starved long ago. Even with all his grand ambitions, he wouldn’t have had the energy to pursue them.

However, the calm of the afternoon was suddenly disrupted. The once-clear skies were overtaken by rolling black clouds, and howling winds carried a barrage of broken branches and withered leaves. In an instant, the tranquil mountain village was shrouded in darkness.

A sharp, piercing cry echoed from the distant horizon.

“Hisss!”

The villagers, who had been resting in the shade, looked up in alarm. Soon, panicked cries resounded throughout the village.

“What… what is that thing?!”
“A demon! It’s a great demon!”
“Run! Run for your lives!!”

In the sky above, an enormous, terrifying black shadow soared through the clouds, covering the mountain village within seconds.

A horrifying aura spread out as rolling black mist revealed the demon’s form. Its scarlet eyes glowed with boundless malice, and its elongated body was covered in pitch-black scales. Several gruesome wounds marred its back and abdomen, oozing fresh blood.

If a cultivator were present nearby, they would have immediately recognized this creature—it was the Teng Snake, a notorious demon from the Demon God Palace. With its cultivation at the Nascent Soul stage and its formidable physical strength, it was considered a nightmare to face at the same level.

Yet, for some unknown reason, this Teng Snake had sustained such severe injuries.

The snake’s blood-red eyes fixed on the mountain village below, its crimson tongue flickering ominously. A cold, bloodthirsty glint shone in its gaze.

It needed blood—fresh blood—to heal its wounds.

After letting out a deafening roar, the Teng Snake dived down, black mist trailing behind it. Its massive tail swept forward, instantly capturing several fleeing villagers and tossing them into its gaping maw.

The taste of fresh blood sent the snake into a frenzy. It rampaged through the village, leaving a trail of carnage in its wake.

The villagers, being ordinary mortals, stood no chance against the demon’s slaughter. In mere moments, the once-peaceful mountain village was reduced to a scene of hell on earth.

Amid the chaos, Ye Lingyun quietly activated the Turtle Breathing Technique, concealing his presence to avoid the Teng Snake’s wrath.

Fortunately, this technique relied on unique methods rather than cultivation strength. Otherwise, he would likely have met his end today.

The farmer’s wife, realizing the dire situation and unable to escape in time, hastily stuffed him into a broken water jar to hide him. She then sought shelter herself amidst a pile of firewood.

Ye Lingyun nervously watched the grotesque shadow outside as it wreaked havoc. The unending cries of pain and the overwhelming stench of blood made him feel nauseated, but he gritted his teeth and endured.

Ultimately, the farmer’s wife could not avoid her fate. Without any means of concealing herself, she had no chance of evading the detection of a Nascent Soul-stage demon beast.

The woman was seized by the Teng Snake’s long, black-scaled tail and dragged into the air. Despite her desperate struggles, there was nothing she could do.

Ye Lingyun could only watch helplessly as she was devoured by the Teng Snake’s massive jaws. He was powerless to intervene.

Sweat drenched his palms and back as he anxiously stared at the spot where she vanished, his eyes filled with sorrow.

But deep down, he understood: in this world where the strong preyed on the weak, lacking strength meant being unable to change anything.

The once-peaceful village was now nothing but a blood-soaked ruin. The thick stench of blood filled the air, a horrifying testament to the Teng Snake’s slaughter.

Suddenly, a brilliant light flashed in the sky, and two slender, graceful figures slowly descended from above.

As the radiance faded, the two women’s stunning appearances were revealed. Both were breathtakingly beautiful, their features enough to captivate any who saw them.

The woman on the left wore an elegant Daoist robe, her Daoist name Miao Zhen.

Her ethereal aura exuded purity and grace. With her flowing black hair, snow-like skin, and unparalleled elegance, she seemed otherworldly. She belonged to the Daoist Palace, one of the sacred Daoist sects, and had reached the Ascension Realm, standing at the pinnacle of cultivation.

The woman on the right wore a luxurious golden robe embroidered with phoenix patterns. Her noble and majestic demeanor, combined with her willow-like waist and phoenix-like eyes, made her radiate a sense of imperial beauty.

This regal woman was Chu Xi, the reigning empress of the Great Chu empire, a neighboring dynasty to Great Qi. Despite her youth, she had already attained the Great Perfection Realm, marking her as a once-in-a-generation prodigy.

Seeing the hellish scene below, Chu Xi frowned and said, “Is the Great Qi Dynasty so indifferent as to let the demon race slaughter civilians unchecked?”

Miao Zhen remained silent, her cold gaze fixed on the Teng Snake coiled amidst the village. Noticing the arrival of the two women, the beast grew visibly panicked. Miao Zhen raised her fingers and began forming a hand seal.

The Teng Snake trembled in fear and immediately attempted to flee in a frenzy.

In its perception, these two seemingly delicate women radiated an unfathomable aura. They were beings far beyond its capacity to provoke.

But just as it made its move, a terrifyingly powerful finger imprint tore through the air.

Boom!

The Teng Snake had no chance to react, nor did it utter a sound, before being annihilated by the strike.

Unaware of the battle that had just ended, Ye Lingyun remained hidden in the water jar. Soon enough, the jar’s wooden lid was lifted, and a pair of hands reached in to pull him out.

The stunning golden-robed woman gently cradled the infant in her arms and called out, “Miao Zhen, come quickly! There’s a little one still alive.”

Chu Xi lifted Ye Lingyun up and examined him closely. A look of pity crossed her face as she murmured, “This little one is so adorable, yet his family is gone. How pitiful.”

Miao Zhen was also moved. She reached out to touch Ye Lingyun’s wrist, examining his innate potential.

Her expression shifted to astonishment as she exclaimed, “Innate Dao Physique!?”
