My Senior Sisters Are Not Human! - Chapter 149 - Chapter 149
With two days left for club recruitment at the school, many clubs had already packed up their booths along the roads. Now, only clubs like the Anime Club were still actively recruiting.
Those wanting to join the Anime Club weren’t necessarily otaku; some might just be simple perverts.
Unfortunately for them, getting into the club wasn’t easy if you couldn’t pass the entrance test.
Su Yuchen took the test paper from the senior sister cosplaying as Kuchisake-onna and glanced at it, reminiscing about his past experiences answering questions on Bilibili.
Folding the paper and tucking it into his pocket, Su Yuchen walked onto the sports field towards his classmates. Before he got closer, he saw a group of students surrounding Song Xinghui, faintly discussing phrases like “missing step between floors” and “red-dressed girl playing piano at 1 AM”.
Su Yuchen didn’t linger but looked in another direction on the playground. Xia Yushuang’s class also had PE during this period. The girl with long ice-blue hair was quite eye-catching. Just like last week, she was playing badminton, but this time… she seemed quite aggressive.
It was clear she wasn’t in a good mood.
Pulling the zipper of his sports jacket, Su Yuchen was about to withdraw his gaze when Song Xinghui’s voice sounded beside him, “Have you heard about the strange events at our school?”
“No,” Su Yuchen replied. He maintained a half-believing, half-skeptical attitude towards unexplainable events at school, but he was more inclined to believe in supernatural occurrences in this world, given that the existence of souls had been proven.
“I just finished compiling them all today. After filtering out all the fake stories, there are seven that are likely true,” Song Xinghui said proudly, always harboring a great deal of gossipy curiosity about such things.
“Which seven?” Su Yuchen asked, his interest piqued.
Song Xinghui counted on his fingers, “The cadaver teacher that eats in the anatomy lab…”
“The first one is already this creepy?” Su Yuchen looked at him in surprise.
“Let me finish,” Song Xinghui continued. “The red-dressed girl playing piano at 1 AM in the music room; the missing step between the 5th and 6th floors of the Technical Building at 11 PM; the running bronze statue that flies out of its picture frame; the Kuchisake-onna crying in the top floor bathroom of the girls’ dormitory; the swimming pool that fills up with water by itself at midnight; and the flying book pages between the 9th and 10th floors of the library.”
The further down the list he went, the less interested Su Yuchen became. Only the eating cadaver seemed intriguing.
“I’ve personally investigated these seven, and they’re basically true!” Song Xinghui earnestly told Su Yuchen, “Don’t dismiss them as rumors.”
“Okay, okay.” Su Yuchen responded casually. He figured Song Xinghui had probably uncovered the truth behind some of these but had agreed to keep them secret with the ‘supernatural phenomena creators’.
“Your reaction is so boring,” Song Xinghui clicked his tongue. “Others’ shocked expressions are much better…”
He paused, lowering his voice. “Bro, did you have a fight with Senior Xia Yushuang? Why didn’t she come to play badminton with you today?”
“I haven’t even had class yet, how could we play?” Su Yuchen yawned. If no ‘misfortune’ occurred, it meant Xia Yushuang wasn’t mad at him.
“Don’t hide it from me.” Song Xinghui put his arm around Su Yuchen’s shoulder, looking serious. “At lunch, you were eating with Senior Xia and Senior Jiang. I saw it!”
“What’s the relationship between you and them? Spit it out!”
Su Yuchen pondered for a moment then said in dialect, “This is called love.”
“Love my ass!” Song Xinghui looked at him with disdain. “This is called deceiving innocent senior girls, and two of them at that!”
“If it were deception, would they sit together and eat with me?”
Song Xinghui opened his mouth, then lowered his voice again: “Can you teach me?”
“Teach you what?”
“How to pursue senior sisters?”
“Pursuing senior sisters…” Su Yuchen glanced at Song Xinghui. “It’s a technical activity.”
“Uh-huh, and then?”
“That’s it.”
“Just this?” Song Xinghui widened his eyes, having already taken out a small notebook to jot things down.
“Yeah, it’s all about skill!” Su Yuchen said seriously. “It’s all technique!”
“B-but what about the process? The details?”
“Just boldly go for it,” Su Yuchen said as he walked. “If you don’t gather the courage to pursue, you’ll never catch up.”
“Actively pursue senior sisters….” Song Xinghui muttered to himself and followed along to keep up with the formation.
After the free activity, Zhao Yibai sat on the grass, panting, and looked at Xia Yushuang, shaking her head. “No more, I’m done.”
“There are only three more to decide the winner.”
“I concede, alright?”
“No way!”
“Yusuang, with your great energy, why not find that junior from last week? He’s a guy; surely he’s got better stamina than me.” Zhao Yibai raised her racket and pointed to Su Yuchen sitting on the lawn, playing with his phone.
Xia Yushuang looked at Su Yuchen sitting steadily on the lawn. With no misfortune occurring, she attributed it all to Jiang Shengyue, and couldn’t help but feel a twinge of sourness in her heart… I was here first, why can’t I eliminate his ‘misfortune’?
“I’m done playing.” Xia Yushuang walked over and handed the racket to Zhao Yibai. “I’ll go to the restroom.”
“Oh,” Zhao Yibai replied disappointedly, having hoped to get some juicy gossip about Xia Yushuang really knowing that junior.
“You still haven’t made up your mind?” Yae Mitsuha walked up to Su Yuchen. “You haven’t replied to my message from last night… do you know how impolite that is?”
“For such a big matter, I need to consider it properly.”
“Haven’t you contacted Teacher Yufei?”
“I have.” Su Yuchen sighed. “It’s just that as a grown man, being threatened by you is quite annoying.”
Yae Mitsuha lips twitched into a sneer. “Then prepare for your relationship to be exposed.”
“Tomorrow,” Su Yuchen said. “How about we meet at the school gate?”
“If you dare stand me up again this time, on Monday, you’ll hear countless rumors.” Yae Mitsuha warned, then turned and left.
“The class president has been looking for you quite frequently recently?” Yae Mitsuha had just left when Song Xinghui approached, looking envious. “Could it be that the class president also…”
“Definitely not.” Su Yuchen lazily replied, picking up his phone and looking at the message Xia Yushuang had sent, asking if he’d be coming home for dinner.
After replying with a “Sure,” Su Yuchen added, “I have to go somewhere after class, I’ll be back around 7.”
[Yushuang]: Okay.
Ending the conversation, Su Yuchen felt a bit more relaxed. The struggling heart of Xia Yushuang leaned toward the option of ‘Su Yuchen’s greater happiness.’ As long as it leaned toward that option, he had a way to make her choose it.
“Let’s go!” Su Yuchen stood up and headed towards the basketball court, where the senior sisters were having a small competition. “Let’s watch basketball.”
“What’s so interesting about that?”
“They play their game, we watch our ‘basketballs’.”
…
After class, having had their fill of basketballs, Su Yuchen arrived at the school library.
Although Sky University only had one library, it was the largest building on campus. Due to its exemption from any national jurisdiction, the library housed some secretive information from various countries. However, gaining access to this information required specific permissions.
Su Yuchen, who couldn’t visit the library last time because of Sylvia, cautiously entered the first-floor hall. After all, he didn’t have the antidote to dispel the ‘misfortune’ at the moment.
He walked to the side and used the smart screen to find information about the Xuanqing Empire’s Jade Phoenix Snow Mountain. Suddenly, Su Yuchen paused.
The ninth and tenth floors?
Remembering Song Xinghui’s mention of the ‘flying book pages between the 9th and 10th floors of the library’ ghost story, Su Yuchen was a bit speechless. If he went there, he’d definitely encounter this ‘supernatural’ event!
Deleting the search history from the smart screen, Su Yuchen turned towards the stairwell. He wouldn’t be deterred by a little ghost story.
The ninth floor housed materials mostly related to various disaster events from different countries.
Section C contained news materials about disasters in various parts of the Xuanqing Empire, including natural disasters, man-made calamities, and disasters related to the ‘forbidden’.
The library was eerily quiet, with footsteps echoing on the floor. Su Yuchen didn’t encounter many people along the way. Apart from those who needed to write relevant papers, students from the journalism department hardly visited to read ancient news from years past.
‘I met Yushuang when I was five years old, and we separated when I was eight. During this period, there were three avalanches in the Jade Phoenix Snow Mountain.’
Su Yuchen thought as he turned into the rows of shelves filled with news materials, searching for news related to the northern border of the Xuanqing Empire between the years 2185 and 2188.
His fingers skimmed through neatly organized information. Soon, Su Yuchen found news regarding avalanches in the Jade Phoenix Snow Mountain in the northern territory from year 2185. The reports included newspapers, folktales, and foreign perspectives on the avalanches.
“2185, 2185…”
Muttering to himself, Su Yuchen found the materials from year 2185 and flipped through the stack of newspapers. On December 25th, at two minutes past midnight, an avalanche occurred in the Jade Phoenix Snow Mountain after a two-year interval.
Su Yuchen meticulously read the official reports about the avalanche’s cause, scale, casualties, and economic losses… There were no significant findings.
After reviewing foreign media’s views on this avalanche, Su Yuchen concluded that there didn’t seem to be any hidden truths about this avalanche.
He moved on to the 2187 newspaper. The second avalanche occurred on the eve of the Lunar New Year. This three-hour avalanche was suspected to be the work of a Demon Lord from the [Seven-Angles Alliance] in the north of Chang’an, but there was never any evidence, so this avalanche was gradually forgotten.
As Su Yuchen read about the second avalanche, he frowned.
Before this, the Seven-Angles Alliance had never attacked the Jade Phoenix Snow Mountain. Despite intense front-line conflicts and sabotage in the rear, they had never ventured toward the mountain. Yet, this time they did, and it wasn’t discreet, making most people suspect a Demon Lord from the Seven-Angles Alliance was involved.
Lost in thought, Su Yuchen recalled that on the New Year’s Eve night, he was celebrating with his parents and sister. He remembered that at that time, Yushuang and her parents were also at his house celebrating the New Year.
That left only the avalanche from December 30th, 2188.
Su Yuchen’s fingers brushed over the newspaper, his gaze falling on the spot where his paper-cut finger was pressing. Like the printed materials he had just looked at, there were missing parts here too, but instead of whole or half pages missing, there were tiny holes in the pages.
Judging from the sentence “In this avalanche, everyone contributed their share of…”, the missing word was likely “power”. Looking at the marks on the other holes, it seemed that the words “just” and “is” were also cut off, seemingly by someone using a small knife. Of course, there was also the possibility that some bored individual used linguistic magic to empower the words, causing these small “pages” to fly away.
With only the last year’s data on the Jade Phoenix Snow Mountain avalanche left to check, Su Yuchen was curious why only these few characters had “flown away” and not others.
“Is just power? Power is just?” Su Yuchen muttered to himself. Why had only these characters’ “pages” flown away and not others? Did these words hold special meaning for someone?
Su Yuchen closed the newspaper in his hand. Although he was a bit curious about the flying pages phenomenon, the 2188 avalanche on Jade Phoenix Snow Mountain interested him more. He reached out to grab the relevant materials for that year, and at that moment, the huge bookshelf in front of him suddenly began to topple towards him.
Without any warning.
Su Yuchen calmly used magic to control the falling bookshelf, preventing the books from falling further. He fixed the books that tilted towards him, gradually restoring them to their original positions. As he was about to resume reading, a crisp “ding” echoed in his ears.
Su Yuchen’s expression froze. “A bell?”
Ding-a-ling~ Another clear bell sound.
Su Yuchen picked up the newspaper and walked towards a nearby area. With the winter solstice approaching, the sky outside was darkening. He stopped and looked towards a desk by the window, cluttered with various books. However, what caught his attention was the figure sitting on the floor.
A figure he hadn’t noticed while coming from the entrance of the ninth floor in the library… perhaps she had just arrived.
“A girl?” Su Yuchen was momentarily surprised.
Ding ding
Another clear bell sound. Su Yuchen’s gaze involuntarily moved to her left ankle, wrapped in pure white stockings, with a red string holding a small silver bell. As her legs moved, the bell emitted a crisp sound intermittently, not continuously.
A light breeze entered through the gauze window, lifting the pure white long hair glistening in the setting sun. Her delicate jade foot, encased in pure white stockings, made contact with the floor, and the bell ceased ringing.
But earlier, he hadn’t heard the sound of the bell while walking. So, she hadn’t just arrived? Su Yuchen’s eyes narrowed.
Is she the ghost?
