“Failed.”

In a brightly lit room, a middle-aged man sat across from a young man. “Young Master Hong, you clearly know the chances of killing Su Yuchen at Sky University are low. Why did you still attempt it? It’s easily traceable.”

Hong Chengzhi, the eldest son of the King Dingnan in the southernmost part of the Xuanqing Empire, smiled slightly. “I was just testing how many guards he has around him. I don’t believe the King Chang’an would let his only son come to Sky City alone. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find out.”

The man’s face darkened. “The Magic Adjucation Bureau has intervened in this matter without causing alerting the public. I’m afraid I have to leave here and return home to lay low.”

“Uncle Li, don’t panic,” Hong Chengzhi said. “The Magic Adjucation Bureau suffered losses in the previous ‘city-wide fainting’ incident. They won’t have enough energy to investigate this non-fatal incident. It’s just a lot of thunder and little rain.”

“Young Master Hong!” Li Die said in a low voice. “We learned about him being here from the Blissful Demon Nation. If we just reveal his identity, there are plenty of people who want him dead. Wouldn’t that be easier?”

“Haven’t we tried that already?” Hong Chengzhi shrugged. “Sky City’s upper echelons are protecting him. The information we post online just doesn’t show up.”

“I could go to other countries that want to see Chang’an fall and tell them in person. They’d definitely be very interested in this information and wouldn’t miss the opportunity. Even if the internet is tightly controlled, what about reality?” Hong Chengzhi shook his head. “There might already be people watching every enemy of Chang’an.”

“And… if it becomes common knowledge, we won’t be able to kill him,” Hong Chengzhi sighed. “Once the identity of the Crown Prince of Chang’an is exposed, the higher-ups in Sky City won’t welcome him. But they still have to bear the responsibility of protecting him until he safely leaves Sky City.”

“Once he’s back in the country, even a Demon Lord wouldn’t be able to kill him within Chang’an’s borders, let alone us humans.”

Seeing Li Die about to speak, Hong Chengzhi interrupted him directly. “And just think—if Su Yuchen falls into the hands of Sun and Moon country or the Sacred Bright Empire, what then? They wouldn’t kill him right away; they’d want to squeeze as much benefit out of him as possible.”

“And our goal is to kill him.”

Li Die fell silent. He was just a strong thug; he couldn’t fathom the complex twists and turns involved in killing a Crown Prince. Something that could be solved with a twist of the neck or a stab to the heart was now unnecessarily complicated.

“Uncle Li,” Hong Chengzhi said earnestly, “killing him isn’t the hardest part. The hardest part is making sure the blame doesn’t fall on us. If Chang’an goes berserk, no one can stop it.”

“Then why don’t we learn from foreign countries and kidnap him instead of killing him?” Li Die said, rubbing his temples. “Use this to make Chang’an bleed…”

Hong Chengzhi shook his head. “For the Hong family, he must die. Only after his death can Chang’an fall into chaos, and we can use foreign powers to suppress all of Chang’an’s forces. Once that’s done, the Empire will belong to the Hong family.”

“So, we can’t let the blame for killing him fall on the King Dingnan’s household. I know my limits—no matter what, we can’t withstand the full wrath of Chang’an.”

Hong Chengzhi sighed, “I want to kill him, but I can’t let his identity be exposed… Why did he, as the heir of Chang’an, come here to attend university? The Northern Border has so many sages—aren’t they stronger than the faculty at Sky University? Can’t they teach him?”

“So, what do we do now? Just sit and wait?”

“Of course not,” Hong Chengzhi stood up and went to the table. “We need to use the power of Sky City.”

“What do you mean?”

“Sky City has always wanted to establish itself as an independent nation. So, we need to make Su Yuchen commit a crime… a crime that looks like he’s trying to use Chang’an to control Sky City. If we do that, Sky City won’t protect him.”

“How do we do that?” Li Die asked quickly. “Chang’an has been resisting the Seven-Angles Alliance and has made significant contributions to protecting humanity. Without evidence, Sky City won’t just act against him.”

Hong Chengzhi smiled slightly, “Without giving up on assassinating him, how about making him the student council president?”

“What?” Li Die was utterly bewildered. Why would they be helping him?

“The Sky Intelligent System is the greatest asset of Sky City. Do you think they’d let him communicate with ‘Sky’? Obviously not. So why would he hide his identity and become the student council president? There’s only one reason: to prevent Sky City from becoming an independent nation. At that point, the ‘Independence Party’ within Sky City would definitely want to get rid of him.”

Li Die’s mouth twitched. “How long will that take?”

“He is one person, but his matter concerns the future of the entire Xuanqing Empire. For such a significant event, do you think it can be resolved overnight?”

“But the longer it takes, the more things can go wrong.”

Hong Chengzhi calmly said, “I’ll keep an eye on him… after all, the relationship between Chang’an and the Dingnan’s household is still good.”

Li Die scratched his head, finding the conversation rather confusing, so he casually replied, “If you want me to do something, I’ll do it.”

Hong Chengzhi nodded, his gaze sweeping over the list of notable Xuanqing Empire students at Sky University—some were royalists, some were aligned with the cabinet, and others were of noble lineage. This made it even more crucial to control Su Yuchen’s identity information within a certain limit.

At the very least, they couldn’t let him be exposed before Sky City made a move.

Otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to kill him.

Hong Chengzhi tapped the table lightly, feeling frustrated. He wanted to kill Su Yuchen, but the process was proving to be annoyingly complicated.

“If only you were just a regular person…”

“But if you were a regular person, I wouldn’t need to kill you.”

Sitting back in the chair, he gazed at the ceiling. “The Night Empire wants to extend its influence to the eastern continent. Initial discussions are already underway… If we enlist their help to kill Su Yuchen, that might actually work. After all, when our family establishes its own nation, we can offer them the largest territory.”

“I guess I’ll bring this up next time.”

…

“Do you have any erotic novels?”

This was during breakfast on a Tuesday morning, when Xia Yushuang suddenly asked.

Su Yuchen paused with his chopsticks, lifting his head to look at her. “I don’t believe you haven’t searched my room.”

“I haven’t,” Xia Yushuang’s tone remained calm.

“Do you know?” Su Yuchen said playfully, “I had some tape secretly placed on the door of my bookcase, but now the tape is gone.”

“After last night’s excessive indulgence, you’ve finally started accusing people wrongly,” Xia Yushuang replied with the same calm tone. “Not very charming of you…”

“Just admit whether you searched or not.” Su Yuchen smiled. “There’s a reward if you’re honest.”

“No… a reward?” Xia Yushuang seemed intrigued, and after a moment’s hesitation, she nodded slightly.

“Congratulations! You’ve earned the title of ‘Perverted Senior Sister,’” Su Yuchen smirked. “Though I wanted to add ‘dog’… After all, only a dog would sniff around in someone else’s room and leave their mark… Finally, I’ve been waiting for a chance to give you a nickname. Ha… What are you doing?”

“Put the knife down… Senior Sister, let’s talk this out.”

“Why are you panicking?” Xia Yushuang, holding a kitchen knife in her right hand, lightly ran her finger across the blade, smiling as she looked at Su Yuchen. “I’m just testing if I need a new knife.”

Nothing unfortunate happened, so Xia Yushuang wasn’t actually angry. Su Yuchen coughed lightly. “Do you really need to test with your own hands?”

“How about using yours?” Xia Yushuang glanced at Su Yuchen’s left hand, then his right. “Tell me, which arm is your ‘strong arm’?”

“You really know quite a bit… closet pervert…”

Snap! Crack!

A cucumber on the cutting board was suddenly sliced in two, prompting Su Yuchen to answer seriously, “It’s my left hand.”

“But there’s no need to test it,” Su Yuchen said, extending his hand toward her. “With such fair and delicate hands, it’d be a shame to leave a mark, wouldn’t it?”

“I’ll control the pressure. You won’t ‘die from trying.’”

“Cutting a hand won’t kill me.”

As Xia Yushuang’s gaze shifted downward, Su Yuchen instinctively clenched his legs together, quickly lowering his head to focus on eating breakfast. Even if it wouldn’t kill him physically, it would certainly kill him mentally.

Life would lose a lot of its fun without it.

“Hmph!”

Xia Yushuang sat back in her chair, just about to start eating when she heard Su Yuchen let out a sudden “Ah!” She looked up at him. “Did you bite your tongue?”

“I forgot to return the newspaper to the library yesterday.”

“You were so grateful to Senior Jiang for saving your life that you just forgot, huh?”

“Yeah.” Su Yuchen nodded instinctively.

“Hmm?” Xia Yushuang narrowed her eyes.

“If it weren’t for Sister Yue handling things…” Su Yuchen said calmly, “I would’ve been taken in by the Disciplinary Committee for questioning. An assassination attempt on school grounds with heavy weapons—my identity would’ve definitely been exposed.”

“Ultimately, it’s because you decided to have a meal by the lake,” Xia Yushuang said expressionlessly. “Even if you were going to eat together, couldn’t you have just gone to a restaurant?”

“Good thing we didn’t,” Su Yuchen explained confidently. “If we’d been attacked at a restaurant, that would’ve been a crime of endangering public safety through dangerous means. That would have blown the whole thing wide open. The Magic Adjucation Bureau would have gotten involved, and my identity would’ve been exposed. I’d likely be expelled… No, they’d have sent me home.”

“You always have something to say.” Xia Yushuang poked at her fried egg with her chopsticks. “The feeling of being saved by a beauty must be great.”

“Uh-huh…” Su Yuchen quickly finished his breakfast. “I’m planning to treat her to a meal on Sunday to show my thanks.”

Xia Yushuang looked up at him. “At home?”

“Out somewhere,” Su Yuchen said as he stood up. “She helped me out a lot, after all.”

Xia Yushuang fell silent, feeling a bit of a headache. Just dealt with Tia Yufei, and now this Jiang Shengyue popped up, even though he never once invited me out…

Subconsciously, she slipped her hand into her coat pocket, gripping the small vial.

‘Should I just go ahead and make a move?’

The thought she’d been holding on to—of letting Su Yuchen remember on his own—began to waver. She was worried that if things continued like this, more “Jiang Shengyue’s” would appear… Even though she was his childhood friend, someone who knew him better than anyone…

Taking a deep breath, Xia Yushuang released the bottle from her grip. No need to rush, not yet. He’ll definitely go home for the New Year, and when he does, I’ll ‘force’ him to visit Jade Phoenix Snow Mountain. If he still doesn’t remember, I’ll take action there!

At the place of their first encounter.

…

As they walked onto the Sky University campus, Su Yuchen glanced at Xia Yushuang beside him but said nothing. He couldn’t quite recall when she started walking with him so openly through the school gates.

Was it after the showdown with Kristia? Or maybe after racing down Qiuming Mountain with Jiang Shengyue?

But that didn’t matter now.

Su Yuchen counted on his fingers. Kristia, Sylvia, Jiang Shengyue, and Xia Yushuang had formed a four-sided dynamic. If he kept wavering, he’d become the very kind of indecisive male lead he despised.

Times are changing, and so must my ‘policy’ towards them. Sticking to the old ways will only get me torn apart.

“Quite a crowd today,” Su Yuchen observed ahead. “I didn’t notice before, but there are quite a few off-campus students here.”

“There are plenty of wealthy people studying here,” Xia Yushuang said casually.

“Where do you get your money from?” Su Yuchen asked curiously.

Xia Yushuang pointed to her head, “Knowledge is money.”

“Top student, impressive!” Su Yuchen praised, guessing that she might have partnered with some enterprises in Sky City, using inventions to earn patent fees. “But I’ve never seen you work.”

“We’re not in the same class. What do you think I do when I’m not in class?” Xia Yushuang chuckled. “Laze around?”

The reason she came to Sky University was simple: learn the most cutting-edge knowledge of magical engineering humanity had to offer, then work in Chang’an Kingdom to help Su Yuchen, who would inherit the throne, develop the northern territories.

Even if he wanted to invade the “Seven-Angles Alliance,” she could secretly help him take down those seven demon lords.

“Are you throwing shade at me?”

“Don’t just assume.” Xia Yushuang replied calmly. “After all, you only enjoy being the ‘Midnight Arm.’”

‘More like the midnight succubus.’

Su Yuchen corrected in his mind and looked ahead. There were several queues at the school gate, and members of the Discipline Committee were using special magic tools to inspect the belongings of each student… especially magical storage items.

When Su Yuchen saw Sylvia among the Discipline Committee, his face showed a slight change, and he involuntarily slowed his pace.

Xia Yushuang turned to look at him. “I warned you at home… Did you still bring something you shouldn’t have?”

“Well, sort of,” Su Yuchen looked conflicted. The one thing he shouldn’t have brought in front of Sylvia was his ‘King Sword’!

‘Maybe I should’ve let Yusuang cut it during breakfast… Ugh!’

Su Yuchen quickly shook his head, feeling like this was too much of a coincidence. Having faced the breakfast knife crisis from Xia Yushuang in the morning, he was now facing the most dreadful ‘temptation crisis.’

“What did you bring?” Xia Yushuang asked.

“Adult content books,” Su Yuchen casually replied.

“You brought that kind of book to school…” Xia Yushuang looked at him somewhat speechlessly. “I thought it was something serious…Well, it’s not a big deal; after all, the university doesn’t care about such things.”

Su Yuchen nodded heavily. Others might not care, but Sylvia would definitely care. She’d love nothing more than to flip through his naughty book countless times.

Taking a glance at the line Sylvia was supervising, Su Yuchen didn’t hesitate to grab Xia Yushuang’s wrist and head toward another line. “Let’s queue up over here.”

Xia Yushuang’s expression froze momentarily, then she smiled, looking down at the grabbed wrist and quietly said, “Hmm.”

Su Yuchen knew his action was just a futile attempt to dodge the inevitable, but what if Sylvia didn’t notice him?

Thinking like this, he concealed all his aura, but—

“Yuchen…”

The voice that reached his ears made him snap his head up, directly meeting Sylvia’s soft pink eyes. This doesn’t make sense! Even if Sylvia was a demon lord, he should have been able to completely hide his aura!

Then, he saw Sylvia’s right hand gently rest on her own lower abdomen, and her voice once again reached his ears, “Yuchen from the night before yesterday… still not digested.”

Su Yuchen’s mouth twitched. She could find him this way? What a perverted ability.

“Sigh…”

“How about you give me the book?” Xia Yushuang whispered. “You don’t have to worry about getting caught.”

Su Yuchen shook his head, “I’m not worried about that, I’m worried about…”

Worried about Sylvia stirring things up in public?

Not exactly…

He was worried about the conflict between Sylvia and Xia Yushuang! They might fight… Xia Yushuang would definitely retaliate if she saw Sylvia making a move on him.

“Is she your childhood friend?” Sylvia’s voice sounded again. Su Yuchen nodded calmly.

“I won’t hurt the people around Yuchen. Have you forgotten?” at these words, Su Yuchen was taken aback. Sylvia had indeed said that. So, his nervousness eased a bit.

He wasn’t afraid of a shura field but the actual bloodshed. After all, whether it was Kristia, Sylvia, or the previous mysterious girl, they were all at the level of Demon Lords. How could Jiang Shengyue, Xia Yushuang, or the gentle senior sister in the library be their match?

“What are you thinking about?” Xia Yushuang turned to look at him. “They won’t make you take things out of your storage tools.”

Su Yuchen glanced at her. “Your voice can be this soft?”

Xia Yushuang pressed her lips together without responding. Su Yuchen chuckled, released her wrist, and followed the queue to the school gate. As expected—Sylvia had positioned herself at the front of this line.

As the Disciplinary Committee president, she certainly didn’t need to check every student herself, but it was a different story with Su Yuchen.

“Take a break; I’ll handle this,” Sylvia said as she took the inspection tool from a female committee member and looked at Su Yuchen, who stood before her.

Last night, she had secretly tried to enter Su Yuchen’s dreams but failed. Therefore…

Sylvia pressed her black-stockinged legs together, her pink eyes flickering with faint traces of hearts.

She could feel it.

Every inch of her skin yearned for Yuchen.
