- Chapter 16 - Indeed, You Are a Pervert
Ling Xiao rushed to Yang Linlin and urged, “Quick! Let’s go!”
“No,” Yang Linlin cried out, “If I leave now, all these crops will be ruined!”
Ling Xiao said angrily, “What are you thinking? With this heavy rain and strong wind, you could be blown away! Don’t you care about your life?”
As he spoke, Ling Xiao reached out to pull her, intending to take her away.
Yang Linlin looked at the vegetables behind her and wept loudly, “I can’t leave. This is all our food.”
“There’s so much left in the freezer, we won’t miss this little bit!” Ling Xiao retorted.
He truly couldn’t understand why Yang Linlin was so fixated on this small plot of vegetables.
Yang Linlin sobbed, “The food in the freezer will only last us a year at most. After that, we won’t have any meat left and will have to rely on vegetables. These are what we’ll eat for the rest of our lives. We still have to live through the rest of our lives…”
Hearing this, Ling Xiao froze.
Right.
He knew this dream would only last a little over three months.
He knew this was just a game.
But for Yang Linlin.
She didn’t know.
All she knew was that the meat in the freezer would only last a year.
All she knew was that they would have to survive on vegetables for the rest of their lives.
Wiping the rain from her face, Yang Linlin continued crying, “I wanted to grow more vegetables so I could learn to cook more dishes. I wanted to cook for you. I’m afraid you won’t have enough to eat in the future. I’m afraid…”
Listening to her words, Ling Xiao’s heart ached.
He immediately embraced Yang Linlin and comforted her, “It’s okay, it’s okay. I’m full—I only need one bowl of rice a day to be full.”
Perhaps it was Ling Xiao’s embrace that made the already emotionally overwhelmed Yang Linlin cry even harder.
She wrapped her arms around him and wept bitterly in his arms, “Brother, our vegetables are gone. All of them.”
“It’s okay. If they’re gone, we’ll plant new ones. We have plenty of seeds, right?” Ling Xiao stroked Yang Linlin’s head as they held each other tightly.
But Yang Linlin didn’t seem to hear his words. She kept crying and murmuring to herself, “What are we going to do from now on? Brother, will you leave me? Wuwu…”
“No, I won’t leave you,” Ling Xiao continued to reassure her.
Ever since only the two of them were left in this world, Yang Linlin had been constantly adjusting to her new life.
Although she appeared happy every day recently, Ling Xiao knew it was just a facade.
In such uncertainty, who could genuinely be happy?
The rain continued to pour.
Looking at the vegetables beside them, Ling Xiao finally said, “Linlin, come on, let’s secure the plastic sheeting to protect these vegetables.”
Hearing this, Yang Linlin looked up at Ling Xiao.
Her eyes red, she finally nodded.
Together, they struggled against the storm to protect this vegetable patch.
Ling Xiao knew this wasn’t just a vegetable patch.
It was Yang Linlin’s last emotional defense.
If this vegetable patch were destroyed, Yang Linlin’s hope would shatter.
No matter what, they had to protect these crops today!
The rain lasted for a full hour and a half.
Ling Xiao and Yang Linlin continuously pressed down the plastic sheeting over the vegetable patch.
As rainwater accumulated in the vegetable patch, Ling Xiao used a ladle to scoop it all out.
But the strength of two people alone wasn’t enough. Under the relentless downpour, Yang Linlin’s vision gradually blurred.
In a moment of carelessness, she collapsed behind Ling Xiao.
“The rain should stop soon. We just need to get all this water out,” Ling Xiao said, turning around when he received no response from Yang Linlin.
Seeing that she had fainted, he immediately dropped his shovel and rushed over.
“Linlin, are you okay?”
“Wake up!”
After a quick glance at the vegetable patch, Ling Xiao decisively lifted Yang Linlin onto his back and hurried home.
Once inside, he removed her raincoat.
“Linlin, wake up,” Ling Xiao murmured, touching her forehead.
“Oh no, she’s running a fever. She must have caught a chill.”
Ling Xiao quickly fetched a blanket from the bedroom.
But Yang Linlin was completely drenched and needed dry clothes.
Ling Xiao hesitated briefly.
Worried that delaying further could lead to a severe cold, he knew the situation would worsen.
He placed his phone on the table, adjusted the angle, and started the recording feature, pointing it at himself and Yang Linlin.
Then, he found a black cloth and blindfolded himself.
Before changing her clothes, Ling Xiao said apologetically, “Linlin, I’m sorry.”
With that, he began feeling for her body.
The entire process was careful and tense.
To prove his innocence, Ling Xiao had chosen to record, so he had to avoid any sensitive areas.
But he wasn’t a supernatural being; removing Yang Linlin’s clothes wasn’t easy.
It took immense effort to finally change her into pajamas.
He removed the blindfold.
Then, he wrapped her in a thick quilt.
After finishing, Ling Xiao sat down, panting, “I’m exhausted.”
Subsequently, he went into the kitchen.
“Where’s the ginger?”
Yang Linlin didn’t know how long she had slept.
She only felt alternating chills and fever.
One moment she was shivering, the next drenched in sweat.
Gradually, she regained consciousness.
Surprised to find herself lying on the sofa wrapped in a thick quilt, she propped herself up and sat.
Suddenly, she realized something.
Looking down, she touched her clothes.
Empty!
Her underwear was gone!
Her clothes had been changed.
What?!
She stood up immediately.
Just then, Ling Xiao emerged from the kitchen.
Relieved to see her awake, he said, “You’re finally awake. You scared me.”
Ling Xiao approached her and reached out to feel her forehead. “Let me check if your fever has gone down.”
Yang Linlin remained still as he touched her.
Her face was flushed and hot.
After checking, Ling Xiao still worried, “It’s still a bit warm. You’ll need to take some cold medicine later. Hold off on fever reducers for now; it’s better to wait until the temperature rises a bit more. Too much fever reducer isn’t good.”
Noticing her silence, he asked puzzled, “What’s wrong?”
Yang Linlin struggled to speak, stammering shyly, “My clothes…”
“I changed them for you,” Ling Xiao explained.
Yang Linlin: Σ(⊙▽⊙”a!!
“But I was blindfolded,” Ling Xiao pointed to the phone on the table. “I recorded the whole process. Don’t worry, I definitely didn’t peek.”
With that, Ling Xiao handed the phone to Yang Linlin for her to check. Yang Linlin was half-convinced and half-doubtful as she watched Ling Xiao on her phone helping her remove her clothes.
His eyes were indeed covered with a black cloth.
Seeing this, Yang Linlin quickly exited and deleted the video.
Ling Xiao then defended his innocence, saying, “See, I didn’t peek, did I?”
Yang Linlin chose to trust his character, but she still teased him, “How do I know you didn’t secretly rewatch the footage after helping me change?”
Hearing this, Ling Xiao suddenly realized, “Oh right, I didn’t even think of that! What a missed opportunity!”
Thwack!
Yang Linlin lightly slapped Ling Xiao’s shoulder, then huffed, “So you really are a pervert!”
