Ling Xiao had persisted all along this journey.

Several times he had wanted to sit down and rest.

But he knew that once he rested, he might not be able to get up again.

The pain made it impossible for him to lift his entire right arm.

He could only drag his heavy steps along the road.

Finally, he saw Yang Linlin’s figure not far away.

He knew that Yang Linlin must have been worried about him and had come out to look for him.

So Ling Xiao quickened his pace.

When he saw Yang Linlin’s tear-streaked face, he smiled and said, “Why are you crying?”

At that moment, Yang Linlin buried herself directly into Ling Xiao’s embrace, sobbing, “I thought something had happened to you.”

“It’s fine, I’m alright, aren’t I?” Ling Xiao comforted her.

Originally, he had intended to pat Yang Linlin’s head with his right hand, but in the end, he switched to his left hand.

Yang Linlin sniffled and asked with urgent concern, “Are you injured?”

“No, no, I’m perfectly fine. Let’s go.” Ling Xiao feigned calmness.

“Alright, come, let me support you.”

While helping Ling Xiao, Yang Linlin chattered on, “I saw that you hadn’t returned for so long, and I knew something must have happened. When I was walking with the flashlight earlier, I was so scared, but then I thought—”

Listening to her words, Ling Xiao couldn’t help but smile.

It truly felt good to have someone by your side.

“At first, I was really scared and didn’t dare to walk…”

As she spoke, Yang Linlin noticed Ling Xiao’s steps slowing down more and more.

So she turned to look at him.

Just as she turned, Ling Xiao’s vision went black, and he collapsed on the spot.

When Ling Xiao woke again, he was already lying in bed.

Yang Linlin was beside him, resting her head on the edge of the bed, keeping watch over him.

Seeing this, Ling Xiao tried to sit up.

But the injury on his arm made him gasp sharply in pain.

He glanced at his right hand.

It had already been bandaged by Yang Linlin.

Judging from the red stains on the gauze, it must have been a cut.

Ling Xiao looked at Yang Linlin beside him and noticed a clearly visible tear track on her cheek.

She must have been worried about his condition.

Seeing this, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of heartache.

At that moment, Yang Linlin sensed movement.

She lifted her head and looked at Ling Xiao.

When she saw that he was awake, she was overjoyed.

A mix of surprise and delight appeared on Yang Linlin’s face: “You’re awake!”

Ling Xiao nodded, wanting to speak, but found he couldn’t make a sound.

What was going on?

He must have been outside for too long, inhaling too much cold air, and damaged his throat.

He could only rasp out a few words: “How long have I been asleep…?”

“You’ve been asleep for almost a full day.” Yang Linlin immediately wore a worried expression. “I… I thought you would never wake up.”

“How could that be…”

Ling Xiao spoke in a hoarse voice.

Then he reached out and wiped the tear tracks from Yang Linlin’s face, saying softly, “Alright, no more crying.”

Yang Linlin nodded: “Okay, I won’t cry.”

“Could you get me a glass of water?”

“Sure.”

After Yang Linlin left the room, Ling Xiao began to ponder.

He had now survived in this apocalypse dream for nearly eighty days.

There were still twenty days left until the end.

During these twenty days, the harsh weather would undoubtedly continue.

To complete the task without any mishaps, the only option was to stay hidden indoors and not go out.

That was the safest and best approach. Second to none.

Unless there’s an earthquake.

While Ling Xiao was lost in thought, Yang Linlin cautiously entered the room.

Holding a cup, she approached Ling Xiao and said, “I just boiled some water on the gas stove.”

Facing the water Yang Linlin offered, Ling Xiao lowered his head and took a sip.

Hmm, the temperature was just right.

After a couple of sips, Yang Linlin asked, “Do you want more?”

Ling Xiao shook his head, mouthing the words, “Thank you.”

“Why are you thanking me?” Yang Linlin sat down, looking at Ling Xiao’s arm with concern. “It must hurt a lot, doesn’t it?”

Ling Xiao smiled faintly and replied, “It doesn’t hurt.”

He was curious about how Yang Linlin had managed to bring him home.

She explained, “I found a board, placed you on it, and then pulled it across the snow. Surprisingly, it was quite fast.”

Ling Xiao remained silent after hearing this.

Then, with effort, he grabbed Yang Linlin’s hand.

Yang Linlin flinched, trying to pull her hand back.

But it was too late.

Ling Xiao’s heart ached as he saw the numerous bloodstained marks on her hands.

Gently holding her hands, he asked, “Does it hurt?”

Yang Linlin shook her head, pretending to be calm. “It doesn’t hurt. It was so cold outside, I couldn’t feel a thing.”

Hearing this, Ling Xiao pulled her into his embrace.

Yang Linlin’s face gradually flushed red.

At first, she felt a bit tense, but soon she began to feel a sense of security.

A feeling of being safe.

Leaning against him, Yang Linlin felt fearless.

As night fell, the temperature dropped even further.

Outside, it had already plunged below minus thirty degrees.

During previous cold spells, Ling Xiao, claiming to have a strong constitution, had given all the thick blankets to Yang Linlin.

Keeping only one thin quilt for himself.

But now, injured and chilled, he lay in bed shivering uncontrollably.

“This damn weather is just too cold,” he muttered.

Closing his eyes, he tried to sleep through the cold.

As if that would work.

It was utterly useless.

Just as Ling Xiao considered putting on another layer of clothing, there was a knock on the bedroom door.

Slowly, he got out of bed and opened the door.

There stood Yang Linlin, holding a quilt as she walked in.

Seeing this, Ling Xiao immediately understood her intention.

He quickly asked, “If you give me all the blankets, how will you sleep?”

To his surprise, Yang Linlin didn’t stop. Instead, her face flushed, she continued making the bed.

Confused, Ling Xiao thought she was refusing the blankets and insisted, “Take the quilt back. It’s fine, I don’t need it. I’m not cold.”

But the next moment, Yang Linlin said, “I’ll sleep with you.”

Ling Xiao was taken aback.

Soon, he understood.

Late at night, both of them slipped under the covers.

Then, her face still red, Yang Linlin asked softly, “Brother, are you still cold?”

As she spoke, her small hands gently wrapped around Ling Xiao’s waist.

Resting her head lightly against his chest, she murmured, “I’m not good for much, but I can at least keep you warm.”

Perhaps it was because they were sharing a bed.

Or maybe it was the added thickness of the quilts.

Gradually, Ling Xiao began to feel warmer.

He nodded and said, “It’s alright, I’m warm now.”

“That’s good, brother. Let’s sleep now.”

“Okay.”

But at that moment, how could Ling Xiao possibly fall asleep?

Not only was his body warm, but his heart was also growing restless.

Lying beside him was a beautiful young woman with a lovely figure.

“Linlin.”

“Hmm?”

“May I turn over?”

“Alright.”
