The next morning, Ling Xiao woke up.
He slowly moved his left hand.
It ached terribly.
His right hand was injured. So last night he had to rely on his left hand for support.
Ling Xiao looked down at Yang Linlin sleeping in his arms.
Her shy and adorable appearance truly evoked pity.
But Ling Xiao understood clearly.
There were still over ten days until this dreamscape ended.
When the time came, he would return to reality.
He was deeply concerned whether this Dream world would still exist then, and whether Yang Linlin would be heartbroken.
Just as Ling Xiao was lost in thought, Yang Linlin in his arms woke up.
She drowsily opened her eyes, looked at Ling Xiao, then smiled happily: “You’re awake~”
“Mhmm.” Ling Xiao nodded: “I’m a bit hungry.”
“Then I’ll get up and make you breakfast~”
As she spoke, Yang Linlin prepared to get up.
When she lifted the blanket, she clearly noticed something.
Blushing, she said: “Um… maybe you could make breakfast today, Ling Xiao?”
Ling Xiao didn’t detect anything unusual in Yang Linlin’s expression, thinking she just wanted to stay in bed longer, so he smiled: “I’ll make it.”
With that, he left the bedroom.
When he finished cooking two bowls of noodles and called for Yang Linlin, he found her washing the bedsheet.
With bashful joy, Yang Linlin carefully washed away that patch of crimson.
Seeing this, Ling Xiao returned to the kitchen.
Three minutes later, an extra fried egg appeared in Yang Linlin’s noodle bowl.
“Come eat, Linlin.”
“Coming!”
Worried Ling Xiao might discover, Yang Linlin hurriedly finished washing and immediately came out.
Sitting down and seeing the extra eggs and meat in her bowl, she frowned pitifully: “I can’t eat this much.”
“The weather’s cold, you need to eat more to gain some weight so you won’t feel cold,” Ling Xiao explained.
Yang Linlin pouted, muttering: “I’m already very chubby.”
“Don’t worry, you didn’t feel chubby at all when I touched you last night – just perfect.”
After processing this for two seconds, Yang Linlin laughed and scolded: “You’re such a rogue.”
“And yet you still slept in the same bed with this rogue,” Ling Xiao chuckled.
Yang Linlin moved her chair next to Ling Xiao’s, leaning against his shoulder: “That’s because I like you, you big rogue.”
“Does it still hurt today?” Ling Xiao asked concerned.
Hearing this, Yang Linlin immediately blushed, shaking her head happily: “It’s fine, it doesn’t hurt.”
Throughout breakfast, she kept chatting with Ling Xiao about various topics.
“After this bad weather passes, let’s go check the vegetable garden. I bet all the vegetables have died.”
“Oh, I think we should exercise more. You should play badminton with me later.”
“Haha, thinking about how no one will be watching us play feels so surreal.”
Listening to her chatter, Ling Xiao said slowly: “Linlin, I want to ask you something.”
Yang Linlin immediately looked at him, nodding seriously: “Okay, ask away.”
“If… I mean if one day I’m gone, you’ll keep living well, right?” Ling Xiao tried to maintain a light tone while saying this.
He wanted Yang Linlin to think it was just a joke.
But clearly, she didn’t take it that way.
Yang Linlin immediately grew tense. She grabbed Ling Xiao’s hand, anxiously asking, “What’s wrong? Why would you be gone? Are you hurt somewhere and didn’t tell me?”
As she spoke, her eyes grew moist.
“No, you can’t leave me. You promised you wouldn’t!” Soon, two tear tracks marked Yang Linlin’s face.
Seeing this, Ling Xiao’s heart softened.
He smiled, pulling her into his embrace, and said, “Silly, how could I ever leave you? We’ve only just gotten together, we have a whole lifetime to share. Besides, you said last night… I haven’t even experienced it yet.”
Yang Linlin blushed upon hearing this.
Choking back tears, she wiped the corners of her eyes: “I… I didn’t say that last night.”
“You did.”
“I didn’t.”
“You did.”
“Wuwuwu… you’re bullying me.”
“Alright, alright, you didn’t say it. Let’s not cry anymore.”
Yang Linlin was still worried. She looked at Ling Xiao and said, “If you’re gone, if you leave me behind, I’ll hate you forever.”
“Then I won’t ever see you again! I can live perfectly well on my own, hmph!”
Ling Xiao watched her pout and pretend to be angry.
That sulky expression was utterly adorable.
So adorable that Ling Xiao couldn’t resist kissing her.
Since testing Yang Linlin’s boundaries that one time, he never brought up such topics again.
Days passed one after another.
It seemed that after the snowstorm, life gradually returned to calm.
Ling Xiao could finally go out to search for a generator.
Meanwhile, Yang Linlin stayed home selecting seeds.
Taking advantage of the improved weather, she needed to quickly plant the seeds and grow some vegetables as soon as possible.
The two seemed to return to their initial way of life.
Except that every night, instead of sleeping in separate rooms, they now shared one.
Bedtime also shifted from 10 PM to 9 PM.
Lying in Ling Xiao’s arms, Yang Linlin suddenly laughed.
Ling Xiao asked, “What are you laughing about?”
“I just feel like everything is so dreamlike,” Yang Linlin marveled. “I woke up one day to find everyone in the world gone, leaving only you and me. We’ve been through so much along the way, but we managed to get through safely in the end.”
She hugged Ling Xiao’s waist and began to envision: “We’re like Adam and Eve, becoming the first generation of humans, starting to reproduce.”
Ling Xiao gently stroked her hair, quietly listening to her words.
Suddenly he turned over.
Yang Linlin knew what he wanted to do.
So she reached toward the bedside.
“Oh no, I forgot to go downstairs and get them today. It seems we’re out.”
“It’s fine if we’re out, no problem.”
“But what if I get pregnant?”
“You’re the one who said we should be the first generation of humans…”
“Bang!”
With ten days remaining until the dreamscape ended, a loud noise woke the sleeping couple.
Ling Xiao immediately got out of bed to investigate.
It turned out the window had been shattered by the strong winds outside.
Looking at the weather outside, he knew the peace of the past few days had just been a temporary reprieve.
Now came the real test.
Yang Linlin gently slipped her shoulder straps back on, then came to Ling Xiao’s side, burying her head in his shoulder as she worried: “Brother, it seems like strong winds and rain are coming again.”
Ling Xiao nodded.
They needed to find another place to live.
All the windows in this home were broken – it was no longer habitable.
When he used binoculars to check the surrounding residential buildings, without exception, they were all shattered too. The wind force was even comparable to that of a Category 18 typhoon.
Ling Xiao had no choice but to bring a hammer and nails, using wooden planks to board up the window.
The raging wind outside continued to howl wildly. Yang Linlin watched the weather with a worried expression and said, “Brother Ling Xiao, will this terrible weather last forever?”
Hearing her words, Ling Xiao, who was hammering the planks, shook his head firmly. “Don’t worry, it’ll clear up soon.”
But he knew—this weather would never clear up.
