- Stranded on a Deserted Island—They All Started Plotting Against Me
- Chapter 49 - Chapter 49
Most girls would feel disgusted by the slimy, bloody stuff.
Qin Ruoshang was no exception — in fact, she felt more than disgust; she felt a bit of fear.
When she woke up in the morning, she heard voices coming from below.
Just as she was about to get up and help, she overheard Anya and Zhang Liu discussing how to handle the innards.
She immediately froze, then started listening nervously.
“How to eat it? Of course, you first cut open the stomach and clean it thoroughly, then give the intestines a good rinse!” Zhang Liu said without hesitation. “Then set up the giant clam shell, light a fire, throw in the intestines, heart, stomach, and so on, and stew it hard. By noon, you’ll have some delicious lamb offal soup.”
“But I think roasting the innards tastes better — thinly sliced and grilled, it’s really good!” After four whole days and nights without red meat, Anya’s eyes were red as she stared at Zhang Liu who was busy flipping the intestines.
If it weren’t too risky, the sashimi-eating Anya even wanted to take a bite right then and there.
“That works too…” Zhang Liu held his breath as he shook off the thick black slime from the sheep’s stomach and intestines. “We’ll both take these to the beach and scrub them clean, then cook some as soup and grill the rest. Let’s make the smoke bigger too—it seems to be attracting too many flies.”
With Anya’s agreement and the sound of them gradually walking away, outside fell back into the quiet atmosphere broken only by the cries of seagulls.
Lying on the “dry straw mat,” Qin Ruoshang stared blankly at the rock patterns on the ceiling and then let out a soft sigh.
Because of her childhood experiences, she was very afraid of seeing bloody scenes — especially innards and corpses.
She had once mustered courage to watch Zhang Liu kill a fish to get used to the bloodiness, but almost threw up afterward.
“If only my sister were here,” she thought sadly, instinctively touching her empty neck.
She felt increasingly useless in this “three-person team.”
Anya’s courage to jump down yesterday made Qin Ruoshang fully realize the gap between them.
Maybe someone like Anya was simply better suited for this kind of wilderness survival.
The moment Anya went down, Qin Ruoshang was also forcing herself inside to convince herself to go help right away. But it wasn’t until the sheep got trapped that she finally mustered the courage to pitch in.
“Sister… I feel so bad… what should I do?”
Qin Ruoshang turned over, lying face down on the grass mat, whispering to herself.
After realizing she was becoming weaker and more useless.
Although she knew she had to try to pull herself together, she simply couldn’t summon any strength.
At times like these, Qin Ruoshang would usually chat with her sister Qin Ruoyan, then keep going with her sister’s encouragement.
But now, on the verge of emotional collapse, Qin Ruoshang had no one to confide in.
The night before last, she wanted to talk to Zhang Liu about it but accidentally learned how tragic his background was. In comparison, she felt that if she spoke, it would just sound like whining with no real reason.
So she followed Zhang Liu’s lead and learned more about his two adorable sisters instead.
She reached out and pressed her hands tightly against her chest, squashing her two soft curves flat.
This kind of physical torment didn’t feel good but was the only way Qin Ruoshang could relieve her mental pressure at the moment.
“What exactly am I afraid of?” she murmured, carefully reviewing her actions from the past few days.
The first day, she purposely kept her distance from Zhang Liu but was hit by her period — yet thinking back, she didn’t feel fear then.
The second day, she met Anya, and in her memory, that was the happiest time.
The third day, she ate fish, had something in her stomach, and slept very well that night.
The fourth day…
Her breathing gradually calmed down as she reflected and adjusted her emotions.
Qin Ruoshang began to understand why she felt so restless.
It was fear that had sparked the anxiety.
Fear that she was completely useless.
Fear that Zhang Liu and Anya wouldn’t need someone like her who couldn’t help.
That was why, the night before last, she chose to switch from being someone who confides to just being Zhang Liu’s listener.
Breathing hard, she started thinking about how to solve this problem.
At that moment, sounds came from outside the cave.
“Has Qin Ruoshang not gotten up yet?”
“Probably not. Anyway, we’ll start roasting first. Isn’t your offal soup going to take a long time?”
“It’s not offal soup, it’s lamb offal! Don’t you Japanese people drink lamb offal soup?”
“First of all, I’m not Japanese, I’m Chinese! And second, I’ve never drunk lamb offal soup!”
“Alright, alright, let’s hurry up and cook. That way, when Qin Ruoshang wakes up, she can eat some hot barbecue.”
“I’m telling you, don’t you secretly have a crush on Qin Ruoshang, thinking about her so much…? You even said when you were cleaning the lamb liver just now that you wanted to save a piece separately to stew for her to replenish her blood.”
“She’s on her period right now, okay! When it’s your turn, if we can still get lamb, I’ll save a big piece of stewed lamb liver soup for you too.”
“I don’t want that! I want to eat the grilled stuff!”
“Alright, alright, you can even eat it raw if you want.”
The laughter and chatter of Zhang Liu and Anya reached Qin Ruoshang’s ears.
Listening to how Zhang Liu was taking care to accommodate her, and the friendly tone he used when talking about her with Anya, her worries about being abandoned suddenly vanished.
Feeling much lighter, she rolled off the “straw mat,” got up, and ran to the cave’s edge, loudly greeting, “You’re back?”
Anya and Zhang Liu froze where they stood, staring blankly at Qin Ruoshang, who was excitedly waving, looking somewhat confused.
Feeling awkward under their gaze, Qin Ruoshang quickly ran down the steps beside the cave to join them, then her eyes didn’t know where to rest.
Although Zhang Liu and Anya had washed the lamb offal at the seaside, removing most of the bloody smell and strong odor, to Qin Ruoshang, these lamb innards still symbolized something terrifying.
Remembering her anxiety inside the cave, she bit her lip hard and said, “Let me help.”
“Uh, Qin Ruoshang, you can just help fill up the water over there,” Zhang Liu said, nodding toward the empty clam shell in Anya’s hands. “Anya… how about you come help me process the innards over there?”
Although he didn’t know why, he had noticed that Qin Ruoshang seemed very resistant to innards, raw meat, and the like.
She always pretended she could handle it — like last time when killing fish, even though her calves were shaking, she still dragged Anya over to watch.
As a guy and having promised to take care of the two of them, Zhang Liu naturally wouldn’t force her.
Since Qin Ruoshang wanted to help, he arranged for her to do tasks that didn’t require contact with blood or guts.
Just as he thought his plan was perfect, Qin Ruoshang, her delicate face pale, stepped forward stiffly and looked at the pile of innards, then said, “I want to help you process the innards.”
Before she finished speaking, she couldn’t hold her breath.
With shallow breathing, a foul, fishy smell hit her nose. Unable to control her body’s convulsions, Qin Ruoshang covered her mouth and ran to the side to vomit.
“…” Zhang Liu and Anya could only stare silently at the scene in front of them.
After a moment of silence, Anya spoke up first: “How about you handle it first, and I’ll go check on her?”
“Okay,” Zhang Liu nodded, carrying a full basin of innards toward the puddle, but after thinking for a moment, he chose to go farther away.
On the beach, Qin Ruoshang was still dry-heaving.
Anya handed her a bottle of “Nongfu Spring” water that had been boiled and refilled, then quietly asked, “What’s wrong?”
