Xia Guixuan had read the original work, and it was actually the other way around.

It was Tai Kang who selflessly saved the female lead, Xue’er. From then on, Xue’er secretly admired her sovereign and began martial arts training for him, risking her life as a general—not for the country, but for him.

Quite cliché, right?

The result: beautiful flowers fell, waters flowed, but Tai Kang fell for the married Chang’e, and poor Xue’er suffered heartbreak. It eventually led to Hou Yi’s rebellion. The author hadn’t written beyond that point yet, but it was anticipated that Xue’er would valiantly fight to save Tai Kang, who would eventually regret and abandon the country to live in seclusion with Xue’er. If it turned tragic, Xue’er might die in Tai Kang’s arms…

Anyway, it was a completely fabricated plot that deviated from reality. Xia Guixuan found it amusing because, apart from that, there were no other novels about Tai Kang. Moreover, the book portrayed Tai Kang handsomely with decent martial prowess, making the character quite likable.

However, the director and scriptwriter were flattering Ling Moxue and purposely altered the story to highlight that her character, the female general, had saved a man during a crisis. Besides, if they really shot a scene where the man tackled Ling Moxue, it might anger the fans…

Ling Moxue knew what her subordinates were thinking, but she dared not.

Sticking to the original story, with the male lead saving her, might work. But altering the original story where she saves him?

What if her capricious Master got angry? Saying something like, “Who are you to save me? Kneel!”

What then?

Feeling aggrieved, Ling Moxue spoke coldly, “Adaptation isn’t about random changes. Who allowed you to alter the original thing? It’s supposed to be as it is. Arrange the scene; I’ll go change.”

As Ling Moxue went to change her clothes, the director looked at Xia Guixuan. His ancient attire looked good, and the fabric seemed high-quality. Although a monarch from the Xia Dynasty wouldn’t dress like this, this story wasn’t historically accurate anyway. This newcomer seemed well-prepared; was he aiming for fame?

But Xia Guixuan wasn’t thinking about that. He squatted eagerly, observing the scene arrangement. After watching for a while, he suddenly felt something was off, “What’s with this green screen surrounding everything? Where’s the wilderness? Where’s the tiger?”

Someone asked incredulously, “You, an actor, don’t know such basics? The scenery and the tiger are all post-production synthesized. During shooting, we use this green screen as the background.”

Xia Guixuan: “…”

The director knew this “newcomer” probably had some relationship with President Ling. He explained with a smile, “Actually, all we need to shoot is you tackling President Ling. We’ll do slow motion and add music in post-production. The final effect will be great…”

“This isn’t the Tai Kang hunting scene I had in mind…” Xia Guixuan was speechless, “Isn’t there a grassland just outside? Why do it like this?”

The director chuckled, “There’s a grass field, but no tiger.”

“Wait here.” Xia Guixuan dashed outside, found a secluded spot, and reached out into thin air.

Suddenly, Fat Tiger clutching a platter of meat appeared in his grasp, looking bewildered.

Hearing a tiger’s roar, the crew rushed outside, utterly dumbfounded.

When Ling Moxue emerged in ancient attire, she was equally astounded.

We are just a small video drama group, not a big movie or a documentary crew. Is this necessary?… Wait, is this tiger going to attack someone?

Is it not heavy for you to carry such a chubby tiger with one hand?

The director looked at Ling Moxue, sweating profusely. Ling Moxue also had beads of sweat on her forehead. After holding her breath for a while, she weakly said, “Let’s give it a try. Isn’t it quite realistic?”

The film crew cautiously began shooting.

As per the plot’s requirements, Xia Guixuan was supposed to rush forward and forcefully push Ling Moxue away. They were supposed to tumble in the grass, accompanied by slow-motion effects and music, brushing lips against cheeks, Ling Moxue blushing, and exchanging meaningful glances. That’s how the scene was supposed to end.

For a professional actor, it’s straightforward…

Fat Tiger knew what it had to do. It smartly leaped forward with a “roar.”

In the next second, Xia Guixuan flew up with a kick, and Fat Tiger vanished with a “ding.”

Fat Tiger: ?

Ling Moxue: “…”

Director: “…”

“Oh… ha-ha.” Xia Guixuan realized his mistake and laughed it off, “It was instinctive. Tai Kang was supposed to be like this….”

Ling Moxue couldn’t help but tug at his sleeve, whispering as she moved aside, “Master, please, I really don’t have this much time to waste…”

“Okay, okay.” Xia Guixuan caught Fat Tiger, which was flying high in the sky, and brought it back, “Let’s continue.”

Fat Tiger’s eyes welled up with tears.

You’re making it hard for me, a chubby tiger!

Xia Guixuan handed it a pill, and Fat Tiger, delighted, scampered away a bit before turning back to pounce again.

“Action!” the director decisively ordered.

Fat Tiger pounced towards Ling Moxue, who played the role of a naive girl caught off guard, her eyes reflecting the ferocious tiger vividly.

A tall figure leaped from the side and knocked her down onto the grass. In the tumble, Ling Moxue looked at Xia Guixuan, who was lying on top of her, and Xia Guixuan was looking at her.

Although she wasn’t sure if this could be considered a “meaningful eye contact,” it didn’t matter much in a small video. Ling Moxue knew that this would suffice.

As for whether she blushed or felt shy, she probably did, a little.

For the first time in her life, being pinned down by a man, rolling around together, feeling his breath, warmth, and the touch of his muscles—everything felt so real.

“You…” She pushed aside her myriad of thoughts, remaining professional, “As per the plot, your lips are supposed to accidentally brush against my face.”

Xia Guixuan didn’t react and replied through mind transmission, “Tai Kang wouldn’t do that.”

“You’re an actor, not Tai Kang. How would you know how Tai Kang behaves? Do you want to say nobody understands Tai Kang better than you?”

Xia Guixuan didn’t respond.

Mind communication was quick, but the rolling was even quicker. Realizing they wouldn’t meet the requirements, which was a waste of time, Ling Moxue bit her lip and gently brushed her red lips across his face as she tilted her head slightly.

The rolling stopped.

Ling Moxue was on the ground, Xia Guixuan on top, and they gazed at each other intently, as if time had stood still.

Fat Tiger crouched nearby, curious, while the director ecstatically tried to capture this fleeting eye contact on camera.

It was so vivid.

There was a hint of sharpness in the man’s astonishment, as if he were really a king subtly expressing, ‘Woman, you have no right to touch me.’ The woman’s expression was shy yet resolute, her chest still heaving, as she looked up at the man without flinching.

The author probably never imagined such an expression. This shot was more than just a scene from a novel video; it could probably win an award if shown elsewhere.

Unfortunately, the eye contact lasted only for a moment. Xia Guixuan soon stood up straight, and Ling Moxue quickly got up, asking calmly, “Is this scene okay?”

“Ah!” The director stamped his foot. “The dialogue should continue. You shouldn’t have stood up.”

The dialogue… both had forgotten the lines for this melodramatic script and said in unison, “That’s enough.”

After exchanging glances again, Xia Guixuan closed his mouth. Ling Moxue took a deep breath and said, “Let’s take a break; we’ll continue with the dialogue scene later.”

In the resting area, Xia Guixuan leaned back in his chair, slowly sipping his drink. His eyes were staring at the ceiling, but in reality, they seemed to pierce through it, reaching the sky, appearing distant.

Ling Moxue sat quietly opposite him, observing him for a while, then softly murmured with a hint of distress, “Shouldn’t a slave avoid touching the master randomly? But this drama was your idea; you must provide some response.”

Xia Guixuan, seeming to snap out of his reverie, chuckled softly. “There’s no such thing as ‘should or shouldn’t’… You’re the one feeling aggrieved. I just… remembered something.”

Ling Moxue couldn’t help but be curious. “Has Master had similar experiences in the past?”

“There have been similar ones… but not with Tai Kang.”

Ling Moxue was puzzled. Of course, it wasn’t Tai Kang. Was it necessary to emphasize?

She listened as Xia Guixuan slowly continued, “Living for so long, countless fragments blend together, becoming scenes that one can’t distinguish the time or place of… Do you think it’s a good thing or a bad thing?”

Ling Moxue couldn’t fully grasp it and just said, “Living for long should generally be a good thing, right?”

“But repeated echoes… what good does it do to the heart?” Xia Guixuan murmured, “The Dao is incomplete, is it all because of this?”

Ling Moxue vaguely understood what he meant by “you and I are the same kind of people” from before.

She was cold, ruthless, and decisive in her killing, all for the path of enlightenment.

And he… seemed to be as well.

But he couldn’t break free from… like eagerly playing certain roles, it seemed to be his nostalgia.
