One wave subsided, only for another to arise.

As the guardians of the continents, they would not sit idly by as the true descendant of the demon realm rose.

Thus, Hongluan and the others were once again faced with a new challenge.

However, they hadn’t anticipated that this battle would come at an exceedingly heavy cost. Four of the continental guardians died one after another, while Hongluan fell into a deep slumber.

It wasn’t that the demon descendants were far more powerful than the mysterious Taoist boys.

Rather, these demon descendants possessed treasures from the Demon Realm.

These demonic artifacts were the reason the continental guardians paid a price as steep as blood.

Over ten thousand years ago, Hongluan awoke from her slumber, only to find the world had changed beyond recognition.

Her former friends had all died in battle.

Of the five continental guardians, only she remained.

Four lives were exchanged for the deaths of eight demon descendants.

Hongluan mourned for a long time, but eventually, she decided to honor the promise the five had made long ago.

She vowed not to ascend until the two remaining Taoist boys were eliminated.

Thus, Hongluan wandered the world for over a thousand years, searching.

But she found no trace of the Taoist boys.

This left her feeling perplexed.

Is it possible that all the Taoist boys are already dead?

Hongluan didn’t believe it to be so simple.

She patiently waited in the mortal world, until by sheer chance, she encountered Zheng Qiu, the 17th-generation sect leader of the Azure Cloud Sect.

Zheng Qiu had been consumed by inner demons and had become a monster driven by slaughter.

Hongluan rescued him, and he regained his sanity, saving his life.

Zheng Qiu was deeply grateful to Hongluan, and he wished to repay her.

But Hongluan simply asked for wine.

Zheng Qiu invited Hongluan to the Azure Cloud Sect, offering rare and precious spirit wine as a gesture of hospitality.

Hongluan drank with great enjoyment and ended up staying at the Azure Cloud Sect.

Zheng Qiu had heard of Hongluan’s name and knew the reputation of “Central Continent’s Greatest”.

With some trepidation, he boldly invited Hongluan to officially join the Azure Cloud Sect, offering her the title of Honorary Elder.

All disciples and elders were to greet her with respect. Not only would she have no duties, but she would also have endless supply of thousand-year-old spirit wine.

The last four words—“endless supply of spirit wine”—finally made Hongluan relent and accept the position.

Though, she refused the title of Honorary Elder. In her own words, it sounded too awkward.

She chose to live in seclusion at the back mountain, simply drinking.

Zheng Qiu readily agreed.

Yet, even the most abundant spirit wine has its limits.

A thousand years passed in the blink of an eye.

After finishing all the spirit wine sent by the Azure Cloud Sect, Hongluan went to the main hall to speak with Zheng Qiu once again.

But to her dismay, Zheng Qiu was no longer among the living.

The current sect leader of Azure Cloud Sect was now Ma Shouben, the 18th-generation leader.

Ma Shouben had heard of Hongluan’s story from Zheng Qiu and, understanding the gravity of the situation, quickly realized he couldn’t afford to offend such a formidable figure.

He immediately responded, assuring her that there would be no issue with the spiritual wine. He’d arrange it right away.

Hongluan found Ma Shoubeng quite agreeable. At the very least, his words were smoother than Zheng Qiu’s.

Without much thought, she declared, “The view from the back mountain isn’t ideal. I prefer that peak I saw earlier—it’s perfect for watching the sunset. ‘Sunset with wine, the more you drink, the better it gets.’”

Ma Shouben hesitated.

The peaks of Azure Cloud Sect had long held their own traditions.

The Wuzhi Peak was particularly unique, having always been the site of the sect leader’s first disciple.

Currently, it was the domain of his own disciple, Luo Ze.

It would be simple enough to free up the place for her, but there had to be some justification.

Why not take up the title of Honorary Elder?

Hongluan, however, waved dismissively. Why bother?

Just give her the status of an elder, even caller her a disciple is fine. She would be here mostly drinking anyway.

Ma Shouben’s eyelids twitched in disbelief.

Accepting Hongluan as a disciple?

Even Zheng Qiu had never dared to consider such a move.

But here Ma Shouben was, faced with such an unprecedented opportunity.

Allowing Hongluan to become a disciple could strengthen Azure Cloud Sect’s ties to her. Should the sect face any future crises, Hongluan wouldn’t turn a blind eye.

It was like securing a protective talisman for the sect—an investment that guaranteed their safety.

With no hesitation, Ma Shouben immediately made his way to Wuzhi Peak, kicking Luo Ze, who was deep in meditation, off the peak.

“Get lost!”

Luo Ze, still groggy and confused, was forcibly removed from Wuzhi Peak, gaining himself a new senior sister in the process.

Later, Luo Ze questioned Ma Shouben about Hongluan’s background, as he had never heard of her before.

Ma Shouben simply told him not to pry further and to remember one thing:

In times of crisis, Azure Cloud Sect can call upon Hongluan for help. She is our trump card.

On the surface, she’s just your senior sister. But always be wary—treat her with the utmost respect, even if you have to kneel.

Luo Ze wore a complex expression.

As for Hongluan, after settling in Wuzhi Peak, she accepted two disciples, Tuoba Qiyue and Xie Muling.

Later on, she became obsessed of playing with spirit stones.

Even if she lost every day, she never grew bored of it.

She had thought her life would continue like this indefinitely.

But to her surprise, after thousands of years, the spiritual energy began to recover.

If all went as predicted, new Ascension-level cultivators would inevitably emerge.

This realization made Hongluan aware that the two mysterious Taoist boys hiding in the shadows might soon take action.

Under the pretense of traveling for leisure, she once again embarked on a journey across the world.

As she had foreseen, the Taoist boys did appear.

They began hunting new Ascension-level cultivators.

Hongluan initially intended to eliminate them one by one, but to her shock, the Taoist boys actually set up an ambush.

She was no match for them and could only flee.

During their previous battle, their icy energy had seeped into her body, making it impossible to suppress.

Seeking refuge in a nearby cave, she prepared to rid herself of the cold energy.

And so, the current scene unfolded.

After hearing Hongluan’s story, Ye Yu suddenly felt clarity.

Everything fit together—the protectors of the continent, the descendants of the Demon Realm, the reason for the ice sealing.

But there were still unanswered questions.

Where did the mysterious Taoist boys come from?

How did they gain such terrifying power?

And was their reason for killing Ascension cultivators truly to steal their fate, as had been speculated?

These three questions made Ye Yu think deeply.

Hongluan slowly spoke, “I’m telling you all this because I see you as my successor. Your two senior sisters are too scattered.”

“Though they possess great talent, they still have a long way to go before reaching Ascension.”

“You, on the other hand, are the fastest cultivator I’ve ever seen in breaking through.”

“I’ve even suspected that you might be a reincarnated immortal.”

“But I think, even a reincarnated immortal wouldn’t have your speed.”

Hearing this, Ye Yu chuckled inwardly, unsure how to respond.

His speed had indeed been unusually fast.

Hongluan continued, “Everyone has their secrets, and I won’t ask too much from you.”

“I only hope that when the time comes and Master isn’t here, you’ll complete my mission—becoming the new guardian of the Central Continent.”

“Kill those two Taoist boys before ascending!”
